Our son was in this year s graduation class. Overall, I was pretty happy with most aspects of his high school experience. The school offers a lot of advanced and duel-college credit classes. Most of the teachers are willing to give extra time to help students when they ask. There is a lot of nepotism We did have some issues with a math teacher that just couldn t get her act together (misplaced homework and test grades). The admin staff could be a little more motivated. If you are in extracurricular academic activities (UIL), band, and etc, they excel nearly every year. The sports teams could use a lot of improvement starting with the AD (who grew up here). This graduation class of 122 received $1.3 million is scholarship offers included one that received an appointment to the US Naval Academy. Not too shabby for one of the smallest 3A schools in the state.

Where to start? This school has so much wasted potential due to apathetic administrators, teachers, and coaches. It is an uninspired, unaccountable district that desperately needs new leadership. The superintendent, Dr. Monaco, is responsive and polite but has no backbone. There is a VERY small town mentality when it comes to who gets hired and promoted. It isn't who is best for the students and the school, it's who grew up here and who knows who. The academics are below average as are test scores and your child will have a hard adjustment to college. The athletic department is by far the worst part of the school! If your child is an athlete (great or average) choose another school! If they are great they will be favored but will not improve or grow. It's heartbreaking to see such great talent wasted and to see them progressively decline instead of improve. If they are average they will be ignored. The athletic director (also the assistant principal), Daryl Hellman missed his calling in politics. Do not ever trust that man. He says all the right things to students, parents, and even his staff of coaches but he serves only himself. The district is a steep downhill after 5th grade.

Actually, I'm a Freshman here. I love this school. My favorite teacher is Mr. Lortz and Ms. Nickerson.
