We moved to Doss mid-year and the staff was wonderful about getting him set-up and acclimated. He had a very smooth transition. The staff and students are friendly, smart, and diverse. My son had lost interest in science and math at our old school. He has the spark back about learning and says he LOVES math and science again. I don't think I would've realized it was due to the school until we moved. The teachers here make learning fun and care about their students. He has special needs and made accomodations quickly and have been very supportive.
This is a great school. However, with all the positive reviews, the school is now overcrowded and losing it's sense of community. Teachers are stressed with the increased class loads and parents are quickly getting frustrated. We found other neighborhood gems at Casis, Hill, and Highland Park schools. The word is not yet out about these.
We are in love with this school! Our son's kindergarten year was incredible. His teacher was firm, yet fun, and he learned so much. Great network of supportive parents and teachers.
Doss Elementary has outstanding teachers! The administration is very good also. I have loved the diversity of children in my son's classes. There is very high parent involvement. My only complaint would be about most of the parents--snooty and cliquish.
Lots of parent involvement. Good teachers. Fun extracurricular activities.
A wonderful neighborhood school which is close knit and welcoming. There is enough diversity to keep things interesting and many wonderful committed parents. The facilities are very nice, especially the playground which is nice and shady and offers a variety of activities. All the teachers are passionate about what they do and you can tell they love to be there. It feels like a private school.
This school has it all! I have had 2 children pass through it's halls, and they are all the better for it. It begins in the hands of a truly professional and in touch principal and heads straight down the line. Doss excels both in academic opportunity and in psycho-social development. Very well organized and very well executed. Bravo!
Doss is a great school! My daughter went to Doss for 2 years and loved it. Her teacher gave each child the attention he/she needed to learn and develop the love for learning. The principal knows most of the kids by name if not all of them and always greats them with a great smile. Parents involvment is higher than I have seen in other schools. We felt that our child is growing into a responsible young adult with great values and the love of life. We miss Doss and wish we could return.
This school has a fabulous sense of community and safety. Students learn in an enriching environmnet where both teachers and administration have their best interest in mind at all times. parent involvement is excellent.
This is the best elementary campus in the A.I.S.D. There is lots of parent involvement and the teachers are beyond measure. All achools should be this good.
