Mathews Elementary is a small, very diverse public school with very active and involved group of parents, teachers, and administrators. The teachers are invested in the education and well being of their students. I Love this school!

We moved into the UT family housing when my daughter was going to enter kindergarten. We couldn't have asked for a better neighborhood school. She absolutely loved it and thrived in the environment. Though we have had to move out of state, my daughter still mentions how much she misses her friends and teachers there. If we are ever going to be in Austin again, Mathews will be our priority school.

As a former student of Mathews, I can honestly going to this school was one of the best educational experiences of my life. Not only did it help me grow academically but socially as well. I made some of my best friends in the world there. The teachers are invested in the education and well being of their students and the staff members are always willing to help with any problem. The school has one of the most diverse student bodies you will see at an elementary school. Every student is given the experience of taking part in Cultural Festivals and sponsored nights like Science NIght and a Sock Hop! Overall this school allowed me to grow as a person while getting an education that exceeds all others.

I went to Mathews from Pre-K through 6th Grade, and it was the best experience for my childhood. I loved every single teacher and had a great group of friends. There is no finer staff that can be found, here they teach kids from all around. I am currently a Sophomore at UT and I plan on staying in Austin when I have children and I am sending them to Mathews.

i love this school it has wonderful staff members and everyone knows each other. most of the kids are nice and you get to have a great experience as you go through the grades. i wish everybody could go there and learn lots of things.

Celebrates diversity and therefore everybody feels welcomed and proud of who they are and their origin. An exemplary school, it thrives encouraging great parent involvement as well as community support. Many of us moved to the area to remain in Mathews.

Mathews Elementary is a small, very diverse public school with a very active and involved group of parents, teachers and administrators. More that half of the students come from economically disadvantaged homes and 10 percent are considered homeless. We also have many international students whose parents are attending graduate school at UT. There are around 20 different languages spoken by the diverse student body. The teacher turn around is extremely low because everyone loves the school so much, it is a fabulous place to work. It feels like one big family. One parent said that every time she walks into the school it is like receiving a big hug and I think that sums it up pretty well. The icing on the cake is that we are so academically strong, we are ranked exemplary.

We joined this school in 2006. In the two years that we have been there I can honestly say it has changed our lives for the better. With the help from counselors, our school teachers, and especially the principal, Ms. Kinkade, my son is now excelling. On a scale of 1-10, this school is a 10!

Mathews Elementary is a diverse school community with a close knit family feel. There are less than 500 students and an excellent student/teacher ratio. Highly recommend this special neighborhood school.

Two of my children enjoyed four of their most enriching school years at Mathews. Mathews, its teachers, and its students gave both of them the opportunity to learn in a multicultural educational environment.They participated in different activities that introduced them to the world of music and art (science fairs, writing contests, recitals). When my son entered Middle School, he joined the Jazz Band and the Orquestra, given his exposure to music at when he attended Mathews. Its library is one of the best features!It was a joy seeing the children expending their time borrowing books, reading, or listening to a story teller guest. Even I enjoyed it,when volunteered to help in there. Most of all, my family found a place where we were known by our first name, and where we found a warm and friendly place for our kids to grow. We're thankful for all this school give us!

This is one of the best elementary schools in Austin. Economically and ethnically diverse, all of the students here are treated with respect--and treat each other with respect. There is a true love for learning and reading at this school that makes it stand out from all the rest,as well as a 'free' atmosphere that encourages creativity without ever sacrificing order. It's one of those 'model schools' that just 'works.'

Mathews is a jewel of a school. It's not in our neighborhood, but it's on the way to work. I've enjoyed 'car pooling' with my kids. It's located near enough to central Austin (where I work) that it's easy to drop by during lunch or for special school activities. We searched all over town for the 'right' school for our multi-cultural children. This is it. Mathews draws students from the naturally integrated neighborhood of Clarksville, and the U.T. married student housing. They nurture and respect diversity while giving academically gifted kids the challenges they need to succeed in middle school. Another plus is that the sixth graders get a year of leadership experience, instead of being on the bottom rung in an unfamiliar school. The Mathews community has been consistently wonderful for the 13 years we've had kids there. We love Mathews!

Mathews is a very unique school in terms of cultural diversity. Students are from over 40 different contries in the world. The school tries to understand all the differences, incorporating them into teaching. I love Mathews.

In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
