This school needs the love. I base this judgement on talks with my aunt who has taught at Walnut Creek for years.

I have concerns about the size of the 5th grade classes this year. WCE have only four 5th grade classes. Each class averages 30 students in each. This makes for crowded, noisy classrooms and limited quality instruction. Behavior problems in some 5th grade classes, disrupt the learning process but the administration is not proactive about handling or helping the teachers solve the problems. They (the administration) put the responsibility off on the teachers who are already have the burden of large classes and little resources.

I have a 3rd grader that has attended Walnut Creek since kinder. I am very happy with the staff & principal. Last year, in 2nd grade he had problems with his reading & acknowledge what he was reading. He improved with The 21st century after school tutoring & with Americorp. This year I am looking foward to the TASKS test.

The school has an excellent 21st century program. PTA participation very low in my opinion. Also I would prefer a school that does not 'teach to the test,' if that exists anymore.

Have had too many bad experiences with this school and the staff. No respect to parents or the children when needed. No extra support for the different types of disabilities and communication is not well.

Overall this is a great school. I am very pleased with my child's teacher by doing what she can to help. But if your child is struggling with academics, then there's not much of an alternative for extra help other than the assistance programs for Vietnamese and primarily Spanish speaking students.

Fantastic school, teachers are great, after school activities are the best. A really safe & friendly place for your kids.
