Williams Elementary School

This is the first year my child is attending Williams. It is horrible. No communication to the parents. There are things that happen that the school does not inform all the children's parents in the class about. The PTA does nothing. Useless. I really want a refund. The kindergarten classes are in portables and have to walk in the rain to go do anything. I have given it time and talked and tried to resolve issues but it seems they want to hide issues and not have the parents involved. At this point if I could I would just move out of this school district. I am tired of fighting just to keep my daughter in a safe, stable atmosphere. I feel defeated.

Williams Elementary is the most unorganized school I have ever seen. Most of the classrooms don't have full walls from the other classes which makes consentrating very difficult. Williams has also cut out recess (except on Friday). For a full year, they have failed to clean vandalized playground equipment, the kids can play on it when the paint dries. My son had a substitute off and on for 50% of the year due to teacher training (your own time please!). The new principal even offered to just change my son's grades when I brought her my son's poorly and non-visable Xerox copy homework for the week. This school and everyone in it should be ashamed of themselves!

This is my daughter's first year at Williams and we have been extremely disappointed with the lack of field trips and special day celebrations. My daughter constantly complains of being bored in this school, and the lunch schedule is at a ridiculously early time for some of the kids i.e. second breakfast time, and way too late for others i.e. close to time to be dismissed from school for the day. I am looking forward to finding a different school which will match our needs far better.

I work with every school region in the State of Texas and am 5 generations of Austinites. I have a choice of what schools my children (I have 5) can attend and Williams is the elementary that I have chosen for all 5 of my children. 3 have gone through and 2 are currently at the school. It is a great school and I cannot stress how much it has improved since they brought on a new Principal that really cares for not only the students, but the facility and parents as well. She has made it be known to everyone involved with the school what needs to be improved on to make this school one of the top in Texas and has received rave reviews for her efforts. They are definitely on their way to the top. Kuddos to you Williams for your outstanding choice on your new Principal.

My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease this past March. Her body can't digest anything with wheat and/or flour in it. I have told the school and they have been very supportive and have accomadating my child with her special diet. Not only can she not eat certain foods, she can't play with playdo, glitter, certain markers and certain crayons. If she does play with those items she cannot touch her hands to her mouth. My daughter missed alot of school and the teachers and the staff was awesome when it came to my daughters needs. Thanks to Mrs. Perez (1st grade) and the staff at Williams Elem.

My 2 children have attended Williams Elementary for the past years and we have truly enjoyed our time there. With both a special needs child and an above average child, the hard working staff has the expertise and knowledge as diverse as our needs. I have also been involved with the PTA and have gotten to know the inner workings of the school and have to say that it is superb. Not only do the teachers, staff, and parents work hard as a team to make things happen, but they do it with heart. They desire to make the school a place for our children to create a strong foundation to build their future on. I truly believe in this school and its ongoing success!

The first two days of school for my child were rough. Her teacher was very rude to my child and I thought my child was just telling me she was mean. Until I heard her yelling at my child. I soon went to the office and we were able to switch teachers very quickly. Thanks to the principle and the staff the move was quick and painless. Thanks to them. And my child loves her new teacher.

My child is in his last year at Williams Elementary. Over the past 4 years Ive watched it change and grow with the addition of a new principle. She is wonderful and clearly expresses as well as shows an interest in the success of each child there. The teachers themselves are to be commended. It takes a special person to want to be a teacher and you have that at Williams. I would however like to comment that I would hope in the future that more African-American teachers are offered positions at Williams Elementary.

We love williams! Both my daughters just love going to school there. The teachers are woderful! The office staff is alright! Its really improved alot in the last year with their new principal.

I think Williams is a wonderful school. Everytime I have lunch with my son I see several parents there with their children too. The parent involvement is great. The teachers welcome always have time for our questions and concerns.

Williams Elementary is a very large elementary with an even larger student population. While they do have some nice services such as a staff speech therapist, occupational therapist, and diagnostician, the students themselves seem lost in the massive size. Additionally, the quality of the teachers varies greatly.

I just want to share with everyone what a wonderful special education program Williams has! Thank you to the teachers who devoted so many hours, hugs, smiles, and brainstorming sessions with us this past year! Not only are the Sp. Ed. teachers great, but my child was placed in a reg. ed. class part of the day and that teacher was just as wonderful! The only thing I might recommend is that the student body is counseled on acceptance of children with disabilities and how to become a friend to them.
