Effective school leaders: Neutral

The elementary principal is fantastic. The head of school is the latest in a long line of terrible school leaders.

Develops character: Neutral

There are very good values taught at the school but in practice a lot of bad traits (bullying, teasing, superficial judging of other kids, etc.) are allowed to go on and probably undermine anything taught in the classroom.

Teacher effectiveness: Neutral

The newer teachers are generally very good and passionate about teaching. The teachers with more than 10 years at the school tend to view teaching as something to do to pass the time. Maybe it's just part of getting too comfortable in your job after you've been there a while but it is very noticeable.

Handles bullying effectively: Disagree

- a
There is definitely a hierarchy of kids within the school based on the parents' wealth and social position in Austin. Kids of the top tier parents are rarely reprimanded for bad behavior including bullying to avoid risking monetary donations from those families.

Academically, HP is very solid, if limited, on what is offered. Culturally, girls are treated differently than boys. Girls are reprimanded for behavior that boys are allowed to do and are constantly being told to be submissive. Being submissive is a constant directive and there's been at least one homework sheet on how to be submissive. If you are raising a girl to be independent and stand up for herself and what she believes in, HP may not be the best environment.

The leadership staff at Hyde Park is amazing. They are always open to talk at any time.

Develops character: Strongly agree

The teachers and all of the staff support the kids and provide them the tools to advance at their best.

Teacher effectiveness: Strongly agree

My son loves both of his teachers. There is a lot of individual attention which makes my son feel more comfortable about asking questions.

Amount of homework: Strongly agree

I truly feel that the right amount of homework is good to keep our child's mind in working.

This is our first year at Hyde Park and my 10 year old son was very anxious about starting a new school. It only took a few days and he was in love with it! He loves the teachers and the kids are so nice to him. It's great that he can study the bible every day and ask any questions he wants to! We are so pleased with our transition and what the future holds for our son's education!
