Hi,
We are moving to Austin with a 1st grader and a 2 year old. We need some advice about which neighborhoods to look at -- we are looking for great schools, natural beauty, a home in the $300-$350k range that has some character. Any suggestions?? THANK YOU!!

Hi JenSLP,

You can start here: http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/ Type in the zip code and you will be able to narrow down your search and decide which schools you want to tour after reading the parent reviews.

Another helpful article is located here: http://www.greatschools.org/find-a-school/moving/3986-choosing-a-school-from-a-distance.gs

Make sure you talk to the HR department where you are going to be working, and don't be afraid to contact a real estate professional. They're great sources of knowledge for neighborhoods and amenities.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

We moved from out of state a little over a year ago and went thro' pretty much the same things. For more natural beauty, you have to be on the west side of Austin which is the beginning of "hill" country. However, the prime west close to the city is very expensive and is part of the famed Eanes school district. So, your choices for good schools and affordable homes are in the northwest and southwest of Austin. We decided on a home in the southwest based on proximity to work. Good luck with your move.
