We have been very pleased with Spring Garden so far for kindergarten and first grade. The quality of the teachers we've had is outstanding. They are so caring, great communicators when there are issues (or to report great things they are doing). My kids are learning so much. The extended day program has worked out well for us--my kids really enjoy going there after school.

The best elementary school in the HEB district! Highly qualified teaching staff and very caring! My daughter struggled at first and came out shining in the end! The dedication is awesome, your child can benefit from what I believe is a top rated school!

A great school with dedicated teachers. Offers about the same extracurricular as all elementary schools, which is limited. Well kept and Mr. Johnson (custodian) is a real asset, keeps everything running and really loves the kids! One thing they could look at is tailoring the academic approach as student population changes. There have been some major demographic changes at this school and within the district - doing it the same old way may not be as effective with some students.

Spring Garden is a fantastic school. The teachers really care about the children. The school offers so much more than just 8-3 classes. The Extended Day program is in my opinion one of the best I've ever seen. My children love going to Extended day after school and often complain that they are not ready to leave when I pick them up because they are having so much fun. The extended day program tutors and helps with homework so when we get home at night we can have quality family time instead of rushing to get homework done. There is also Beach club on Mondays and Cougar choir. The gifted/talented program is one of the best in the state. Lots of fun and lots of education! What more could a parent ask for?

This school has gone downhill is the last few years. Once the best, now second-tier. Hopefully the new principal can raise the standards to where they once were.

My daughter loves her teacher. She is very successful. My only concern is about differentiation. My daughter is capable of doing the next grade level of work, yet, there has been little, if any differentiation in the classroom. I believe she needs to be more challenged.

Little extracurricular activities - no apparent rewards/recognition for academic achievement - why ?

No extra curricular activities at all - unsafe front curb and traffic on central is going too fast

I feel like this school has some really dedicated teachers. Lots of volunteering parents to help with social functions while teachers focus on teaching. Very well kept school!

Spring Garden has been wonderful. My son has attended PK and K and is currently in after school care as well. The extended day program is wonderful and I can not say enough food things about the teachers and staff. The focus on education is appropriate but I think that the push for higher test scores sometimes interferes with the actual learning process. The push to do well on test is put ahead of the actual retention of knowledge. All around this is a great school!

Education is the priority at Spring Garden. Safety/security are enforced. The campus is up to date. The music program could use a change in direction/teaching method. Principal is fairly new (2years) and young.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
