Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Horn Academy is located in Bellaire, Texas. It is cozy and has a very friendly ambience. It has an excellent PTO which organizes festivals, book fairs, fundraising events etc. The campus is very safe wirh fencing and ID checking for all visitors. My kids love the school especially because the majority of the students are polite and well behaved. My kids claim that there are no bullies in the school. Horn Academy has a lot of students from different cultures and provides an excellent environment for acceptance of those cultures.

What? A fashion show? The kids (and teachers) who participate in the fashion show have an absolute blast. It is so fun to watch. Horn has a very supportive and active parent base and a wonderful group of teachers. School activities are abundant. I see so many smiling faces when I am at the school. I wish I was an eight-year old again!

Horn is a small school with a really big heart. My son is new to the school this year and I am so thrilled with the way he has been brought in and helped through this transition. His teachers are wonderful and were very thorough in getting information from me to help them as much as they can. He leaps out of the car each morning ready to go to school. The teachers are doing a really great job in helping him get and stay organized...and prepping him for the transition challenge of third grade. I love this school.

Horn is a great public school in Houston, Texas. It is the only elementary public academy offering each and every student from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, courses in Communications, Science Lab,Computer Science, Music and Fine Arts...All this for free! Our school is awesome...I only wish all schools could offer so much to every child!!!

Horn Elementary has a great program that enriches the children in a number of ways beyond the standard 'reading, writing and arithmatic'. The teachers are supportive of the students and really enjoy their jobs. The parents are active and work together to provide a network of support for the teachers and to raise money to cover the things that basic school allotments don't provide (everything from basic school supplies to teacher scholarships for training). Eight years ago when I was selecting a school for my oldest son, a neighbor told a story about how her teenager still considered her Kindergarten teacher (at Horn) to be the best teacher she had ever had. The next year we had that teacher - and I would have to agree! All eight years since then I have been pleased with the teachers and experiences that Horn has provided.

Despite the school being located within large school district, it maintains a small town feel in that the parents and teachers make an effort to get to know each other and strive towards common goals. The result is a collaborative effort to provide the students with better classroom instruction and materials and excitement about learning. My twins are in first grade and the school emphasizes development of good study habits and routines that will serve them for years to come. I like the fact that it is attractive to neighborhood families as well as magnet students I do wish all schools offered more outdoor time whether it be for PE or classroom discussions.

Horn Elementary in Bellaire Texas is the best school because of our dedicated, hard-working and loving teachers. We are very privledged to have our distinguished public school be a Magnet School for teaching our children about Art, Communications, Computer Technolgoy, Earth Sciences and Life Sports. Our PTO is full of committed parent volunteers and we have been successful in developing positive relations with our community businesses and leaders. Horn Elementary is a Diamond in the Rough!

Horn Elementary is a home away from home for my children. I love the fact that the nurse views her office as a haven for a child. She counsels them without them even realizing it. She says she wants to write their story and gets them to open up to her about their feelings. She then discreetly talks with the parents to help them understand what might be going on with a child that seems angry or frustrated. I love that Horn staff cares this deeply about their students.

Horn is a place where my kids recieve a high quality magnet school education right in our own backyard. Other schools are eliminating art, recess, and other high value-non TAKS test subjects but Horn keeps them as part of the curriculum for every student - not just the magnet kids or the G/T kids.

I have 2 daughters attending Horn presently in 1st and 3rd grade. My daughters feel welcomed and loved by thier teachers daily at Horn. The creative writing, computer, art, music, and PE classes really create an exciting buzz at our house. My daughters are eager to go to these classes and the knowledge they have gained has enhanced their fundemental classes greatly. Horn does an exemplary job creating an interdisciplinary approach to education as their teachers do a masterful job at exposing the children to diverse cultures and perspectives. The PTO does an awesome job of communicating with parents, teachers and administrative staff. However, I would love to see more ethnic groups represented in Horn's teaching staff. I think it would enhance the beauty of diversity present in the hearts of its students and teachers. Overall, we have been completely satisfied with the blossoming confidence of our children.

My son attended Horn for 2 years. He has special needs and I was hopeful that his educational needs would be met. I was sadly extremely disappointed. I found the some staff to be genuine, but the teachers were not commited to educating my child. This is a district issue as well as school issue. On a positive note the children were exceedingly friendly and welcoming!

I'm looking at Horn with great interest. There have been staffing changes made, but it is difficult to tell the impact of those changes at this time. It's a school with 'good bones', but ultimately there's great room for makeover. High parent involvement. This school should be a great school, but you have to wonder why it is not.

I've had two children attend Horn. When we first moved to the area, I was struck at how much it was just like the public school I attended, 30 years ago. The school has a neighborhood feel, and my children made good friends while they attended. I suspect those students in the G/T program would do well, especially in the 4th and 5th grades. Too much time is lost in 4th and 5th grades dealing with changing of classes and general organization. The 4th and 5th grade staff is not a cohesive team; some of the teachers treat the students harshly - some yell and insult the students. I had a great experience with the K-3 staff. Horn offers 'communications' (creative writing), 'life sports' (like roller skating and kite flying), 'computer', 'art' and 'science lab'.

My children came from a poor-performing charter school and I cannot tell you how wonderful Horn is. I feel that the staff at Horn genuinely loves my kids and there is a real sense of accountability here and a wonderful outpouring of community involvement. I know exactley how my kids are doing in what class and what their grades are at all times. I have also seen a real improvement in their behavior and happiness and I love the fact that they want to go to school and dont want to miss school even if their ill. I feel that the children are exactly where they belong and am so thankful that they go to this school.
