Hill Country Montessori School

This is an amazing school. There is a great sense of community and a focus on the child's overall development as a person as well as their education. All of our kids have been here for several years and I can't say enough about the Montessori method and how well this school implements it. Communication with the parents is excellent. The staff are all well trained and certified with ongoing professional development. This is one of the few schools in Texas and the only one in the San Antonio area that is actually certified by the American Montessori Society. Any issues that parents have are dealt with in a direct, open way. We are lucky to have found this great school in our own backyard!

I have been a parent at this school for three years now and am very satisfied. They are AMS accredited as well as SACS CASI, and maintain very high standards. They are dedicated to their students, their faculty, and their parents. As with all good Montessori schools, the curriculum is student guided, but that does not mean the student gets to do whatever they do or do not want. So, if you are a parent with your own agenda looking for a school to cater to that, look elsewhere. If you get stressed when your child struggles and rushes in to do things for them, look elsehwere. This school will inspire of love of learning, teach independence, teach them how to find solutions to challenges, and provide an amazing level of confidence. These students regularly go on to other schools and excel at all they do. I highly recommend it.

The head of school lives,breaths and sleeps Montessori - traditional only - otherwise look elsewhere...which is what I wanted. She is also extremely competent, forward thinking, a great instructor and has excellent leadership skills. This is critical since she leads a staff that she mentors. They are excellent and well trained teachers. The school integrates values, instruction and families into the learning process in a very wholistic way. My daughter (7yo) attended from pre-K to her current second grade and she has become confident and independent in her skills and scares me sometimes when she makes a analytical statement including various hypotheses and possible outcomes. I would recommend this school to all without reservation. Also -my observation as a psychologist is that the teaching philosophy involves caring for the person, their individuality, and well being psychologically which I think is critical for children in their early years. Can't say enough.....

I was not satisfied with this school at all. The director paints a beautiful picture of the montessori phiosophy, but teachers do not follow through. Everytime I picked up my son all he was doing was playing. He also disliked his teacher and would often say she was very mean.

I'm a former parent from this campus. We left disappointed that the Montessori philosophy, so highly tauted by adminstrators, did not make it into the classrooms. Strict requirements for students to comply with age-inappropriate behavior expectations frustrated my child and began to affect his desire to go to school at all. We have moved our child to a different montessori, where we are pleased to say, the children are flourishing.

This school demonstrates exactly what the Montessori philosophy professes to be. The Head of School is very intuned with the professional development of its staff and delivers what is needed in this of type of education. I would highly recommend this school if you are looking for a reputable school in the community.

Our brief experience with school did not live up to our expectations. Montessori philosophy is appealing but was not followed consistently by our childs teachers and some of the other staff we dealt with when our child was there. School is beautiful and safe. Cost is reasonable. Still may be worth looking into since preschool choices are limited in the area.
