Our children have attended Sul Ross since the 2004-2005 school year starting with Kindergarten. There is a great sense of family at Sul Ross. We are on a first name basis with the entire staff and they know our children well. Since the school is relatively small (approx. 390-400 kids K-5th grade), everyone knows my children and it is great seeing the same faces year after year. We began Sul Ross the same year the current principle began Sul Ross. The kids no longer stay with the same group of teachers K-2nd grade. They strive to keep up with technology in the classroom and the principal sets high expectations on the teachers. The teachers highly encourage students to enter city-wide and state competitions and the teachers are there to support their efforts. Sul Ros is truly a neighborhood school.

Sul Ross got a new principal this (2004-2005) school year and I have noticed improvement. The security at the school was lacking last year and has improved some, but still need work. Students walk outside alone during the school day and names have never been checked for people that pick up my child. Ross also works on a 'Family' rotation that is a great disadvantage to the children. For example:Children stay with one group of teachers for K-2nd grade. They have the same children in their class year after year -- good or bad. The teacher dress code is very relaxed! Flip flops, frayed and faded jeans. The morning staff does not make children feel welcome.
