Channelview High School

I am currently a student at this school and i am very unpleased with it. This is an over all good school but some of the teacher that are hired here do not know what they are doing. These teachers do not know how to really teach and some just don't care to help when we do not understand something.

I graduated from Channelview High School and have a first hand account of what really goes on there. I'd have to say that there are some wonderful teachers working to improve their students education and over all well-being but there are just a handful. I'm very disappointed in the responses that people have made because if you look at the test scores and drop out rate of CHS you could not come to the conclusion that it is a good school.

Channelview High School is a school with excellent academic programs for students enrolled in PreAP/Advanced Placement courses. It also has a great Career and Technology department. However, after that the school is embarrasing in State TAKS performance, extracurriculars and many other areas.

The quality of the academic programs at Channelview High School are average. The biggest downfall here is that there should be more options and funding available for the art, music, and sports activities.

I am a student @ C.H.S. and I think it's a wonderful school. The teachers are attentive and they actually challenge us. Don't knock it until you've been through a regular school day for a teen. They care about us at C.H.S. and all other schools don't compare!

As a parent of a 14 year old, I KNOW that students must be kept on a tight leash when it comes to attendance. If a student is allowed to miss more than half of a class period, what kind of education are they getting? Is the teacher supposed to to hold off on teaching the other students in order to accommodate those who cannot get to school on time? And what as parents,are we teaching our children if we ourselves are too lazy to get up and make sure our children are prepared? Is it the school districts fault that a parent is lazy and has taught their child bad habits? No,and anyone with any sense would not hold a school responsible for their own inadequencies. The high school as done what needed to be done to hold our children accountable for their actions. Real life is difficult!

Channelview High School is a great school in that the students are getting a good education, but they are being degraded and treated as 2 year olds. The students have no freedom to do anything ang the principal thinks that he can just change things as he sees fit. This previous school year he changed the policy for tardy/abs. The students had til 8:00 am to attend school before being counted absent then he changed it to 7:30 am and school starts officially at 7:20am and expected students to still come to school and attend their class even thoungh they would be counted absent. All this change did was make students have more absences. He needs to ask the students what they want.
