Unfortunately I have a son and daughter that are zoned to this school. Both are on 504 plans with a ADHD diagnosis. I have found that the teachers and staff working with the students to help them on this plan show no concern or support. One of the counselors even made a comment to me that my daughter was lazy and irresponsible. I have had the worst experience when it comes to trying to work with the teachers on grades, etc. Emails and or phone calls are not returned by my students teachers when I try to follow up on grades, assigents, etc. My two teenagers have asked to move several times, and we are now waiting. It's unfortunate, because my oldest son graduated from this school 4 years ago, and I was hoping to make it a tradition for my other 3. It seems the school staff has gone down since then.
Unfortunately, I have two teenagers zone to this school. The teachers, and 504 coordinator/staff are very unsupportive and show little concern. I try to do my best to contact the teachers with little to no response. I have even been told by the school counselor that my daughter is lazy and just doesn't want to be responsible. I feel this is discrimination and judge mental.
This school is absolutely terrible. I hate this school with every fiber of my being. Im a senior, been here since kindergarten, played football all thru jr high and high school, was in the band, and I try very hard in all of my classes. That being said, here are my observations: the teachers are terrible, they are just there for their paychecks and don't care if the students pass. The sports are all horrific. They all lose every game or event they participate in. The environment is absurd, the amount of drugs that circulate around this school would baffle even the most experienced school. If you care about your child, and want them to have a great high school experience,....send them anywhere but here.
I don't really like this school as a parent. There is way to much drugs circulating the school. Also the school A/C tends fail every now and then.
Very disappointed in the school. I am on this site because of it. I am now searching for a private or a charter school for my daughter. I think the school is great for students who make straight A's, but for the average student who floats between honor roll and a C in one or two classes, they will fall through cracks without some SERIOUS persistence and involvement from parents. One year you may have good teachers and a good school counselor, another year horrible teachers and a horrible counselor. It's kind of up to chance at this school, but if you're the gambling type...
I am absolutely disgusted with this school. Don't let them tell you lies about how this school has "strong leadership" and "excellent principals and teachers" because i guarantee your child will either hate this school, or have trouble here. I am an EXCELLENT student an Oak Ridge High just isn't the school for me, But I must say they are academically supported pretty well, But the environment is horrifying!
Oak Ridge is the best high school in the county. Mr. Johnson and staff make parents feel welcome, students feel responsible and teachers feel dedicated. I have two areas of concern. One is the lack of technology in areas besides vocational classes and two is the condition of the older areas of the school. The new and refurbished areas are great but other areas need some TLC. Paint, new grout and new carpet would make a huge difference. When kids feel good about their school, they are more eager to attend. Cosmetic changes, especially in the bathrooms, are needed. Oak Ridge is CISD's middle-class school: not poor enought to receive Title 1 funds and not new enough (or powerful enough) to get much-deserved attention. My family members are in several county high schools and none come close to providing the well-rounded, spirited atmosphere of Oak Ridge.
Their are a few issues with air conditioning and a one or two leaks in the ceiling but overall it's the best school in conroe (Socially). The students are great and the teachers are even better.
Great teachers and programs that reflect what our young adults need in today's enviroment.
I moved from Spring because of how horrible it is. I absolutely love Oak Ridge High School and you can definetly tell a difference between the two schools. I have made life long friends and am recieving a great education. This is a great school.
Another former student: keep in mind that this is a public school in a suburban atmosphere. Considering the state of public schools these days, I would say Oak Ridge High School puts in a tremendous effort to educate and secure the well-being of their students. Trust doesn't have to exist between students/staff. Students need to start recognizing what their role is in a public school. That role is to learn; to receive the best education possible from the school. Nothing else. Anything more than that is a privilege, and those can be revoked at any time. Privileges are not freely given, and I think the Faculty and Staff of this school recognize that. The students, however, could use a little more education in this area. Overall - ORHS rates as a 4 in my book. Quality public education.
As a former student of Oak Ridge I would highly disagree with the parents listed on this site. Between not knowing or not security is going to be searching you, because they have a 'feeling' your going to start a fight; or the biased decision-making of the principals, it's really hard to find comfort and joy going to school the next day when there is so little trust between staff and student. As far as grades go, they are almost the worst in the district, and it doesnt help that the teachers are poorly paid and don't feel like they can do their job. The best thing i can say is the award winning band and choir, but beyond that with only a few select teachers who acculy like to teach, it is embarrasing to say i ever went to Oak Ridge High School and its on a fast downhill-slope
Mr. Tommy Johnson and Ms. Hughes are two of the most OUTSTANDING administrators the School District could ask for.
I grew up in Oak Ridge and went to York Jr. High and Oak Ridge High School. It was the best High School I could have asked for. The teachers are very involved and there are many opportunities for your student there.
I have been very happy with the ORHS, except the one disapointment for our family is that german and japaneese will not be taught. My children do not enjoy french and when will they use latin? My husband speaks several languages and french and latin & spanish are not any of them. We live in Shenandoah to be able to have that choice which schools to go to and by far Oak Ridge wins. I was very upset to hear that the new high school built on 242 might have moved my son over to it, but was reasured by Or we still have that choice.
Oak Ridge is the best high school in the Conroe Independent School District. The teachers are top notch; they excel in subject matter and celebrate the success of each student. Enter the school and notice the warm, familial atmosphere. The school does not possess the multitude of computers or high-tech gadgets that the other district schools have. However, the teachers make the difference.
We recently moved from an expensive school district with nothing but the best in each classroom. Each room has a brand new computer for starters. Oak Ridge has average facilities and not every class offers text books; however, my daughter says that the teachers there actually teach better. She is making straight A's and is learning in the classroom. Her teachers talk about the subject matter more and learning is easier. This school doesn't have the foreign language options she once had; however, I feel that the trade off is far better. I am extremely happy with Oak Ridge High School. We made a good move.
