St. James Episcopal School 5

When the question of why St. James comes up, I only have to look at my two girls, a kinder and 5th grader, to know the answer. Not only are they getting what I believe is the best possible education in Corpus Christi, but the Episcopal faith-based environment and character development that they are a part of every day is shaping them into great people. Many children face too much homework every night, classes that are too large for individual attention, discipline problems within the class that hinders learning, or simply being taught a test by a teacher going through the motions. It is easy to understand the stories we hear about why so many parents are frustrated and so many kids dread Mondays as the start of the new school week. Our experience as parents has been totally different. Our two girls love to get up and go to school every day, and what they get out of it radiates in the confidence and poise that they live with beyond the St James campus. Whether it is the sportsmanship and tenacity that they learn participating in sports, the confidence that comes from frequent presentations and group discussions, or the type of learning that goes deeper into the how and why rather than just a simple answer, these girls choose to look at everything with a perspective of a challenge rather than have it be a blessing or a curse. What a great outlook and a wonderful way for them to go through life. My wife and I attribute this not only to an all star teaching staff using a gifted and talented teaching methods and the involvement of the Church in their spiritual formation, but the sense of community of St. James as a whole, and knowing our girls are surrounded by other scholars who's parents really care. It is this whole package that makes us proud that we are able to send them to such an amazing place during their formative years. When we are able to look in their eyes and see their sense of joy, wonder, intelligence, and confidence as they take on the challenges of this world, we know exactly why we would not have our girls anywhere else in the city. Many of those who feel like we do have posted things on Facebook with the tag #whysaintjames This gives a great look into what St. James is a a school and as a community.

My children grew leaps and bounds once we enrolled them at St. James their 4th and 2nd grade years. They were some what quiet and timid before, but in just a few months at St. James, their confidence grew exponentially! From too afraid to raise their hand in class at their old school to representing the class in the all-school Spelling Bee and running for student council - they feel safe, appreciated and equal to others at St. James Episcopal school. I'm happy to see my children appropriately challenged academically in a loving, Christian environment.

We came to St. James from a G/T program and are beyond pleased. Not only is the curriculum provided more advanced than the school we came from but we are blessed to have a wonderful spiritual education as well. Highly recommend St. James to any and all future scholars desiring a quality education.

We have three children at St. James and are thrilled with the education and extracurricular activities they are receiving. We are a military family and were welcomed to SJES mid-year with open arms. Be sure to ask about the SAM grant. This is a grant for active duty military families. This grant has made it possible for our kids to attend this fabulous school.

I am a proud parent of two Saint James Jaguars! You must take the time to tour this school with award winning Principal Galen Hoffstadt and meet her excellent staff and teachers. Saint James has aways produced scholars with strong academic credentials while instilling the moral values of integrity, forgiveness, compassion and responsibility. St. James Jaguars go on to excel at their chosen High Schools and become productive citizens beyond. Galen's curriculum incorporates the elements of depth and complexity to help scholars become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Come see Saint James!

New to the Corpus Christi area, we looked at several public and private schools in CC and the surrounding areas before selecting St. James. We have been pleased with the learning environment that St. James provides and our student is thriving.

My son is in his final year at St. James, having begun in kindergarten. It has been an excellent school and I feel he is more than prepared for high school. St. James has an exceptional Central Theme program. My son has been in many of the honors classes and has excelled. I believe the quality of the teachers are partly responsible for that. Parental involvement is a big part of the school. I would recommend St. James Episcopal School to not only anyone looking for a great education for their child, but also a safe and nurturing school.
