BTWHSPVA is heaven for my gifted and talented child who is also ADD. Her scores for standardized tests were always outstanding, but her experience in "traditional" school settings was always a struggle. She was bored by the busywork, unmotivated to excel and misunderstood by most of her teachers. Here, she thrives in an environment filled with talent and creativity. She is excited to go to school for the first time in her life and truly misses it during breaks. Instead of being criticized for her learning differences, she gets support, encouragement, and options for her individual style. From the first day of school, she was warmly welcomed, even by students 3 years older. She is learning, growing as an artist (theater), but also gaining incredible confidence, making loads of friends and maturing into a responsible adult. If your child is artsy - I strongly encourage you to visit this school and consider it for their high school years. We live more than 30 miles away from downtown, but making the drive is the best investment in my child I have ever made.

Arts Magnet is by far the greatest school I could ever imagine. I wake up every single morning excited to go to school and ready to grow as an artist. The school defies common high school cliques, and although it is very rigorous and challenging; I am proud to be a student at BTWHSPVA. Everything arts related is by far the best of the best in Dallas if not the country.

Booker T. Washington embraces the child who might not fit in so readily at other schools - it's also not so sports focused. The majority of the student population are extremely talented and hard-working.

The environment encourages the kids to me more independent, therefore, more responsible for themselves in all aspects of their lives. The opportunity for a deeper study in the Arts is unsurpassed.

BTW grooms students for a career in the arts while still ensuring that their academic development is solid. They have created ingenious ways to provide exposure to professionals in their chosen fields as a part of the student's education at no cost to the parents.

As my son says, the only limit to the opportunities at Booker T is time. The dual curriculum (my son is in theater) is so broad. He is learning to do analytical writing and he is exposed to so many great works, not only in English but in his theater classes as well. The academics are rigorous and he is working hard and loving it. He has been at the school only 2 months and already he is on Student Council, in the film club, in the Free Tibet Club and he had the opportunity to participate in building the set for the first show. He is so passionate and excited about all the amazing classes that he has to look forward to. His senior year will be full, unlike so many other high schools I have heard about. They are already researching colleges and putting together resumes. The school is the perfect fit for my passionate, motivated and intelligent son.

The focus on the arts allows the students at BTWHSPVA to explore their full potential. They are so busy learning and having fun that they don't have time to behave badly!
