Good leadership from Mr. Wallace. Teachers are friendly and very supportive. The school is not in the most ideal location as there is a history of break-ins and gang activities in the neighborhood, though there have been no issues during the daytime hours. Overall good school!

Superb administrative leadership since Mrs. Baker took over 5 years ago. Several outstanding teachers who really take an interest in their students. Of course, there are a few that are just there to draw a paycheck. Hopefully they will be weeded out in time. Became a Recognized school this year as a result of superior administrative leadership and excellent teaching. Was rated Unacceptable just 5 years ago - that shows the progress that has been made at Hawthorne. Office Manager very courteous and helpful. Always greet you with a smile. Very active and diverse after school program. Excellent science lab taught by a science teacher, not classroom teacher. Writing scores had gone up in previous years but dropped this past year.
