INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I'm shocked that this school is still up and running.... recently moving down from St. Louis, I never knew what I was getting myself into. My child has only attended this school for 3 months and have come home with a problem everyday. Kids bullying him, trying to steal his phone, pushing him around, etc. Instead of the school district focusing on the funds they should hire authority to help run this school. This school is the reason I'm moving out of Dallas. I pray daily for my son and being African American doesn't make it any easier. He have students ask him almost everyday of he eats chicken and watermelon. Very depressing.

High quality extracurricular activities, great teachers, great principals. The school is not perfect, but it's a work in progress with people working very hard every day to create a rich, holistic learning environment. Discipline issues are my main complaint. But that's middle school.

Hands down the best middle school. I'm currently an 8th grader and it's the best middle middle school. All of the teachers are awesome and our sport teams are outstanding. Especially Cpl. Bates aka coach bates who is leaving. I'll miss you so much bates!!

Terrible school. Their football coaches don't teach fundamentals. My son had to re-learn everything at W T White. Even our superintendent knew to get his kid out of this mess! D

I have had a horrible experience at this school, and school has only just begun. I have come home and cried for hours and do not look forward to going to school at all. The children are rude to each other, and the curriculum for 8th grade is so far behind and I have Pre-AP classes. Not only are insanely strict, but they will yell at the students to the point where the students cry. I know that personally, and I am not a very sensitive person. The opnly positive thing I have to say about this school is that it is very well kept. Clean bathrooms, nice lunchroom and walls. The teachers do not spend enough time on the well behaved children and spend far too much time enforcing discipline to the others. As you can see the other students reviews below don't seem to show very much intelligence. I went into this school expecting a lot more than what I have actually received. I suggest you send your students somewhere else.

I have a 7th grader that went to Marsh Middle school. It was the worst academic experience she ever had. Her teachers were unwilling to help her. I went to every parent teacher conference they had and was never given suggestion on how to help her bring her grades up. Her math teacher was very rude, he didn't even take the time to talk to me regarding my daughters progress or lack of. The principal looks as if he doesn't care about anything that is happening in the school. Once I moved my daughter out of Marsh she did better. She now has A's and B's and looks forward to going to school everyday.

Marsh Middle School has been a great experience for my children. They have been challenged and nurtured and have had extracurricular opportunities in both athletics and fine arts. Is it a perfect place? No. Has it been an educational and enriching experience for my children? Yes. Parent involvement is small but mighty. A strong group who seem to care about helping all students, not just their own. Impressive!

My son is in 6th grade and is having a great year. His teaching team is particularly strong and the leadership of Kyle Richardson is exceptional. This school embraces its challenge of engaging lower income and disadvantaged students and sets high standards for them. At Marsh we don't want to be better, we want to be the best.

ppeople who think marsh isn't safe, or isn't a good school academicaly, are crazy. I came to marsh last year and have loved every minute of it. My experience had been great, and the principal is the best i've ever had, and thats after six years of private school.

The Principle, Mr. Richardson, has a very firm grasp on the school and guides his staff to an exemplary level. The staff, are a dedicated lot, and spur my daughter to obtain the highest level she is capable of. She looks forward to going to school each day.

The level of academic programs continues to improve at Marsh Middle School under the direction of the new principle. Math, reading and science all have added programs which has created a more challenging curriculum for the students. Focus on school pride along with strict code of conduct enforcement is creating an environment that is bringing local families back into the system. Choir and band programs alike challenge children to step out of their comfort zone and excel. Sports programs continue to be challenging with an emphasis on school pride. Parent involvement continues to increase as well with the increase in neighborhood families increased enrollment.

We have been very disappointed with our daughter's experience at Marsh. The prinicpal is slow, if not negligent, to respond. Teachers do not give feedback on student performance. Even though they claim to send out progress reports, only a select few do so, and they do not offer suggestions for improvement or correspond with parents (it took 3 weeks to get a return phone call from 1 teacher). The counselor has done nothing to help with various problems. How can students study or review without materials?

Our experience at TC Marsh Middle School has been extremely good. The principal, teachers and entire staff at Marsh are very concerned with the success of the students and want their middle school experience to be a memorable one. This year we are receiving weekly emails from the teachers letting the parents know what is coming up in class as far as projects, homework and tests are concerned. The teachers and parents have to continue to work together to make this a great school. We would recommend this school to anyone.

I think that the teachers need to work more hand in hand with the parents. Most of the teachers don't let us know that the children need help until it is too late.

I am a parent of an 8th grader student at this school. So far I am gratified with the results my child has achieved. The school staff works hard to ensure safety and discipline. Teachers are 100% involved with student development.

It is remarkable how much Marsh has improved since our older son was a student here. All of our 7th graders teachers are outstanding whereas only two each year were worthy of such praise for his older brother. Credit for the school's improvement goes to the relatively new principal Ardis McCann, several key teachers and a parent community determined to make the school as strong as its elementary feeder schools and the high school. Having been a respected assistant principal at the high school, McCann has strengthened middle school instruction by encouraging departmental collaboration between the two schools. Of great significance is the 21st Century Grant the school received this year. It is providing extensive before and after school programs including tutoring and a wide variety of extracurricular activities.

I don't like this school. The principal does not respond to parent concerns/issues. He is in 'react mode.' He reacts after a problem has occurred but does nothing to resolve an issue before a problem occurs.

I am not a parent of a Marsh student, but I have been a 7th grade language arts and reading teacher at this school for eleven years. Currently, Marsh is an exciting place to work. Our 2004 test scores showed dramatic improvement. Excellent teaching is occuring and students are on the path to excellence. During the 2003-2004 school year, our principal started the 'Thursday folder' concept as a communication link between school and home. Information is given to the students to take home on Thursday, and many teachers also send progress notes on these days. Email communication is vital for many teachers. Out of 10,000 teachers in the district, the honor of being Dallas ISD's 2003-2004 Tacher of the Year, went to a teacher at Marsh Middle School. Please visit us to see more exciting details.

This is an awesome school. We have a great and caring staff of teachers and administrators who work very hard to make sure our kids are safe and also taught well. Our parent base is strong and grows stronger every year. Active PTA, Dad's Club, SBDM and student organizations keep this school going! Our Principal, Mr. McCann rocks! Come check us out!

I also agree with the parent saying the school doesn't keep parents informed enough on how their child(s) are doing in class. Possibly if a note is sent every week,a Thursday or Friday indicating grades made and missing assignment Then as a team (teacher/parent)we can encourage them to bring themselves up to date and the parent and child (s) will know what there average is before receiving failure notices from the school district and what they need to study and work more on to achieve success. I feel also as a team (student, teacher and parent) this will improve their self-esteem and assures them we are here to support them and they can accomplish positive goals in life. As far as discipline I feel better evaulation shoul be done before punishing the entire class. Whoever is guilty of misbehavior should suffer. I'm aware there are times when this isn't possible.
