Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I really love this school. Sure things are not perfect but I made the decision to try public school last year and lets just say it was a very bad experience. My child went from testing above grade level leaving FCA to below in one year. Now that she has returned, I see the joy she has going to school. She wants to learn and brings home so many interesting facts everyday. Sure things are not perfect. But I truly believe they care about my childs future. I feel welcome to communicate with her teachers when needed. No you cannot slack at FCA. They will not just pass you through. In public school my child made almost straight A's but did not know how to complete her homework. The administration has changed many times since I have been there but it never affected the classroom as far as I could tell. The new Principal is very loving and makes the children feel comfortable talking to her. She has also set the parents straight about a few new rules. A good balance of tough and loving which is what you need. Christian education is what you get at FCA. Yes it is the beginning of the year and I'm sure there will be things that come up, but this so far is the best place for us.

My child attends this school for second grade. I love the values and ethics in which the teachers all work under. They have awesome extracurricular activities and keep the kids busy, whether academics or learning adventures (field trips) highly recommend to anyone looking for a good school with Christian values.

HORRIBLY DISORGANIZED ADMISSIONS PROCESS! In July my husband and I called to verify that spots for the 2014 school year. We were given verbal confirmation by the Sec. that 3 spots were currently showing. We completed the app. and verified with the front office staff 3 sep times that we were applying for an open spot. The front office staff verified that we would not be able to apply for a spot unless one were open. After participating in the interview process 2 weeks later, we were informed that there were in fact no open spots available. The DOA informed us that she had made an admissions process change recently. Parents were to apply for spots regardless to rather any spots were open and if none were available that they would be placed in a pool. A few days after school began I called to check to see if any spots had become available. A DIFFERENT woman checked the system and told us there was 1 showing as of Mon. I emailed the DOA & principal to inquire if any spots had become available. The DOA emailed me directly and again ccing the principal that there were currently no spots available. How could there still be a miscommunication between front staff and the DOA?

I feel that this school has the potential to be GREAT.. however sadly there are a lot of issues with the teaching techniques. The atmosphere is not nurturing but more military style. My daughter started with a very outgoing happy personality but now cowards and looks at you very timidly. The cost of the Early Childhood Program is very reasonable however I question if I have made the right decision although no place is perfect my daughter disliked going here. I will be moving my daughter at the end of the school year into a more diverse environment so that my daughter is happy to attend school. In spite of my daughter not wanting to go to school each day the school did teach her a lot education wise. I feel that the administrator should allow and train the teachers to have more of a FUN teaching style oppose to the concept that its easier to control the kids if they are afraid. Good teachers with experience are slim here.

I debated whether or not to post a review, but since it appears the others are a lot older, I figured I'd give some current information. The school has a great reputation built around great teachers and Admin staff. Over the last 3-4 years there has been many changes in both areas. This past school year, 3 teachers were responsibe for teaching Math, Science and Language Arts to grades 5-8. They have had a Principal come and go, and the new Admin is having trouble leading the flock. If you are interested in this school, then ask many questions about the staff turnover rate and test scores. Several parents had to hire tutors for their kids during the school year.

Excellent school! Our child's (3) teacher always challenges her class with new concepts and ideas. The staff and administration are committed to providing a strong quality education.

FCA has been a true blessing to my daughters education. Everyone is very professional and you can see the passion that they have for education. It's always nice to walk through the halls and see all the hardwork the students are doing. This school definately exceeds expectations. It makes not just the child work hard but the parents as well. There have been many times that I found myself helping my child research and prepare projects for class. You cannot slack off at FCA. The best part of FCA is the fact that I feel my child is in a safe enviornment with teachers that truly care about each any every student and that to me is pricesless. :-)

Our child has been at FCA preschool over the past year and we have been disappointed in the leadership of the school. Prior to getting into the school parents must attend an orientation where the administration sells a false bill of goods on how organized and great the school is, and how the administrators are really on top of things. However, once our child was enrolled we saw a totally different face. The administration is hostile towards parents and does not want parental participation or feedback. The administration is not progressive and points out to parents that the school is a step child and school business takes a back seat to church business. Tuition paying parents are nickeled and dimed to death with requests for donations of books, rugs, learning tools, etc. to the school. Most of the teachers are great, but some are lazy and parents MUST stay involved in order to protect your children. FCA has a wonderful curriculum both academically and spiritually, but this is clouded by the shoddy administration. Most of the staff are members of the church and there are cliques that can't be penetrated and hold the school back from advancing.

My children have attended FCA for over ten years. My youngest started at 18 months. I have nothing but praise for the school. The teachers have longevity as many that taught my children in preschool are still teaching at the school. The teachers are committed and the administration is very supportive of the programs. Recently the school advanced to a college preparatory program which has been a blessing.

My daughter has attended Fellowship Christian Academy since she was a toddler. She is now finishing her 2nd grade year. FCA has consistently improved their curriculum each year. I am so impresseed with the new curriculum that was implemented last school year. The math curriculum being used now is a thinking curriculum, not just memorization. They are working at least a grade level ahead in reading and math. I am confident in saying that my daughter is getting a great foundation and will be academically prepared for future learning. There are plenty of activities and field trips that support classrrom learning. Check out the website at FCAsoars.com

My youngest son has been at this school for seven years and my daughter for four years. This school has gotten better every year. Yes, they have had their struggles, but the new curriculum is challenging and focused on Science, Technology and Math. They started a robotics club this year for the middle school students and are giving the teachers more freedom to teach unconventionally. Things are not perfect, but they are good. As a parent though, you need to be involved no matter where your kids go to school if you want them to be successful.

I am a 7th grade student at Fellowship Christian Academy. I love this school. This is my sixth year at that school, and it has been wonderful. The have moved up to College Prep., which has been a wonderful experience to me. The have varieties of educational and athletic curriculms. I would recommend your child to come here.

My children have attended FCA since 18 months. We have had much success with the school. My daughter is in Kinder and I am very impressed with what she is learning. I can see how she has matured from the beginning of the year until now. My son is in PreK-3. They have done an excellent job with teaching him phonics. The school has done an excellent job with both children. Just recently the school hosted a meeting to discuss their plan to become a college preparatory school. Kindergarten and First grade are already teaching students a grade above their current level and they are adapting this same philosophy for 2nd grade and above. The is l very reasonable. It has been a challenging school year because the curriculum is very rigorous but it is well worth it. A child cannot be successful in this environment with out parental involvement.

Fca is a great school for a great price. As parents we have torealize that everything is not perfect and we must become involved in our childrens education in order for them to be successful. Often times we down talk schools because they didn't work for our child, but was it the school are the involvement that we had with our children learning process. FCA has it ups and downs but it is still worth the tution.

My son is in the 2 year old program at FCA. My husband and I love the curriculum, the teachers and the atmospher. Our son has learned so much and he loves his teachers. He is always so happy. He loves going to chapel. This school is well worth the tuition. It has been a blessing in our lives.

The teachers here are awesome. The curriculum is very rigorous (my son is in Kindergarten however the kids love it and it ensures the parents stay involved in thier children's academics. My son is reading at an impressive level after only 2 months of schol. They take not only thier teaching but the children's social spiritual and emotional development very seriously. AND the tuition is affordable! I would recommend to anyone

I have two children at FCA, and they have been there for three years. Each year is different and I have to stay involved just as each parent should. Each teacher is different. I am glad that my children love the school. The school is not perfect, but no school is perfect. I wish the teachers would be a little more creative. It is a private school and I expect more freedom from the school and staff to teach in a more creative way other than strictly textbook. Another thing is that there is no room for recess due to the extensive curriculum. Children are people. They need an avenue for relaxation from work as well as adults. Too much work and no play makes grumpy children.

My daughter started the program at 3 years old and her teacher at the time was awesome. Very loving and compassionate like teachers should be. I have noticed a lot of teacher turn over and her current teacher is not as patient. As far as the educational program it is excellent but I would like to see all the teaching staff to be on the same page. They should be providing more thorough feedback to the parents so that they know which areas to work on.

My son is in Kindergarten at FCA. I have found that the curriculum does nothing more than teach him how to perfect his 'memorization' skills, which he needs no assistance with. It's basically representative of teaching him how to be a 'jack of all trades - master of nothing'.

My child has been attending since August, and he is in the Preschool program. I am highly pleased with what he has learned so far. He is already starting work in his readers, and doing phonics work. Extensive bible verse memory is taught, as well as recognition of letters, numbers, spelling of his name, etc...The staff shows unconditional love and care to all of the students, and the ratio of student to teacher is perfect for the age group. I was thinking of only sending my kid to private school until he was in the 1st grade, but now I don't know if he will attend public school until a much later grade. Awesome facilities as well. Also they are involved in Stretch n Grow, Art, Music, Mouse Club Computer Classes, all included in the tuition price! At his last school this was all seperate!

The commitment to education comes from the top. The education staff at FCA is totally committed to achieving excellence in education. They view educating their students as their contribution to God's work. They support education and Christian values and the children are evidence of it.

FCA has a good early childhood program. I have two children who both entered at 18 months. I have been pleased. The previous principal was good for the school. She knew all the children personally and really had a love for the kids. The principal now is far from that. I can understand why they have a high turnover rate with teachers because if parents are displeased with her, then I can imagine how the teachers feel. The head people in charge need to examine this carefully because if they loose all the good teachers, then enrollment will drop if it hasn't already.

My child attended Fellowship Christian Academy starting in the P-K classroms. I personally feel that this school laid a solid educational foundation for us to build up on. He got the attention and love that I felt that he needed. This school had an open door policy for parental involvement.

This school has a spirit of excellence and promotes this character into the children. In regards to subject based learner I am a little concerned about my childs math and science skills. I would like to see a more aggressive approach in these areas. Otherwise, I am very pleased! The teachers are obvious lovers of education and the student/teacher ratio is wonderful! I really appreciate the biblical emphasis! Great job FCA!

The reading program is accelerated. Students usually working and half to full grade level above in reading. The school has a warm christian atmosphere. Teachers are really friendly. They are very communicative about school program and the academic focus. The school has Music, Art, Computer, P.E., and Library. There is a sport program for upper grade. I wish they had more extra curricular activities for primary students(PK-2nd). The afterschool program can use some improvement in the type of activities offered. My child is Kindergarten and the only activities has is art and P.E. in the afterschool program.

The school has a great learning atmosphere. My daughter has completed 2 years at this school. She attends the pre-school section of the school. I loved her teachers this year. They were really good with the kids. They do a good job teaching. I am concerned with the high teacher turnover rate. Lots of teachers have gone and come since she has been there over the past 2 years.

My child has been at FCA for two years and although the reading is great school is more than just that. The math at this school is not up to standards and after 3rd grade there is no hope for learning. The children have to much paper work and never get a chance to enjoy themselves. The teachers are never the same year to year I wonder why and nothing ever stays the same. But the work from K-5 through 5th. I think that the teachers should be allowed to think outside the box and not teach the same thing every year. I agree with the other parent that wrote no the children will not be able to compete with other schools and I ask the question why.

FCA has an excellent reading program. My daughter recently completed the first grade and can read anything that you give her. I was very impressed with the biblical instruction that the students received along with the academics. I do believe the school could improve on its math program. The students need more hands on experiences instead of alot of pencil and paper tasks.

FCA is very strong in teaching children about the Bible. I like that and would expect it from a Christian school. I am concerned about the other subjects and how my child is doing compared to other children in the same grade at other schools. My child has been there since 1st grade and now he is in the 3rd. I am know questioning whether he can compete academically against the other children in private schools. The teacher turnover is higher then what I would like or expect. I am not sure why.

This is a great school for kids ages 2years to 3rd grade. The christian education if wonderful. The schools testing for Standardized test is always above average for all classes (they do not take the TAKS test??). Although the male presense is definitely missing for the school; they have a 1% male employement. Kids also need to be diversed. The school is mostly African American and I think as kids get older they need to be learn from all nationalities (black, white, hispanic, asian).

My children have had wonderful experiences in the elementary school. The principal and teachers are very devoted to making sure that all of the children receive a well rounded Christian based education. My children continue to advance well past their grade levels. I did experience a lot of inconsistency during their pre-school school years. The pre-school leadership is separate from the elementary school's leadership thus the quality of the pre-school curriculum has gotten weakis weak. I would recommend that any parent really explore the staffing and curriculum before enrolling in the pre-school, however I would highly recommend the elementary school.

FCA is a wonderful school that nurtures the total child. The teachers are kind, caring and intelligent. The environment teaches the children respect for each other and the greater community. The extracurricular activities include music, art, The PE teacher is adored by the students. The parent involvement is tremendous which supplements the computer lab, library, etc. The best elementary school overall when you combine scores, extracurriculars, teacher quality and love and care.
