Should I send my child to a brand new charter school rather than a known public school?

New charter school opening in carrollton, Harmony School of Innovation. My child is supposed to go to Hebron Valley Elem. which I hear is a great school, I can't decide between the two schools. One is well known, and one is brand new but well known in houston where it started from. I hear charter schools are better.

Charter schools are not necessarily better. Some of them are even worse. Brand new does not equal better either. Lots of kinks to be worked out. If you know that Hebron Valley is great, why not send your child there?

Any new school will still be working out its program and 'working out the kinks'. Charter schools are usually smaller than other schools and have more freedom to define themselves as something different. I like the name this charter school has chosen.
But past that, it would be a hard choice for me. You're not comparing apples and oranges - you're choosing between something known and something totally unknown. I'd need more information to be comfortable making the decision.
If you do too, perhaps you could tour both schools even now in the summer. What kind of a facility does the charter school have? And perhaps you could meet both principals and sit and talk with them. Ask questions about class size and what to do if you have a concern or question during the year - who do you go to?
The bottom line is - you're very fortunate to have a choice even if it's a difficult one. Good luck with it.

My girls go to the new charter school and love it. Don't know if you chose it or not. If not, consider it for next year. I am really pleased with the curriculum and entire staff.

I have the same dilemma. My daughter will be starting 'K' next school year. And her current pre-school teacher says she is gifted and would be better served by going to the New Harmony School of Innovation in Carrollton, Texas. I can only find information on their flag ship school in Houston, Texas which by all accounts is a great school. My daughter should go to the school (Indian Creek Elementary) down the street from Hebron Elementary. It is a good school maybe not as good as Hebron Elementary, but still a good school. I am not sure what direction to go.

My now 4th grade daughter was reading at a 3rd-4th grade level in kindergarten. The teacher and principal didn't know what to do, so they gave her first grade books since kindergarten was not challenging enough. My 2nd grader is having more challenging spelling words then the 2nd grade of the school she used to go to. My youngest daughter will be in kindergarten next year, and we will be applying for her to go to Harmony. I have a friend whose daughter is currently in kindergarten at Harmony and is very pleased. Hope this helps.

P.S. The girls' former school was a very good school, and we loved it. Harmony just provides more opportunities for my girls.

If any of your girls are interested and talented at gymnastics we have a terrific private school at Individual Sports Solutions. I would be happy to set something up for you to come and meet the teachers and tour our facility. Our girls go to school from 8am - 1pm eact luch until 1:30 and train in gymnastics until 6pm. All ages. They can also do dance instead of gymnastics. They are off on Wednesdays. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks. Good luck.

I've realized every school is totally different from the other. The same name in one city is different from the other. The nane of a school does not make it a good school. Parent and child feed back is what make a school, as well as the teachers and administrators. Good luck. Please find out all you can that is what I', learning myself.

A parents day to day view is more than any rating or statistic. I've actually sat through my daughters class the first year she was there. No comparison is better than that. I don't know if they actually allow this, but if I'm going to pay money and I don't like the way it feels... If they just refuse I'd really be concerned.
