Since this school year started I have seen about 10 vehicles having to break in the bus area due to kids shooting out of the school.... No teacher is there helping them cross and yet at the entrance of the bus area there is a crossing guard and two, TWO, teachers....... Those kids need someone there so they don't get hurt.... Please think about them...
I love this school because the teachers believe in the rule that no child is unteachable. A lot of schools/teachers now label a child with ADD/ADHD and push them to send the side. It is hard to find a teacher that actually love their job and the kids like Amber Terrace does!!!!
Child in Pre-K, so far so good. Mrs Roland is great at trying to include parents.
Racism is tolerated too much in the entire district! By both teachers and some parents. I do not raise my children to judge a person by their skin! My daughter come home upset because the kids won't talk to her because she is white.
My child wemt to Amber Terrace and was in the gifted program and really enjoyed it, but didnt like how the gifted children were usaully seperated from everyone else and looked at as they were uppity because they were smart and the principal one year just didnt understand. But the teachers Mrs. Hien and Mrs Mull really were fantastic
My child was tested and put in the gifted program. (EAGLE) He has received an excellent education his 5th grade year. He has been is several school settings (not in TX) because of parent re-locations and we have been most pleased with Amber Terrace. The teachers care about and love these students, provide many opportunities to learn outside the classroom and highly encourage parent participation in their child's education. I am very impressed with the DeSoto ISD overall.
My children and I have had a tough 2 years at this school. The practice of zero tollerance often leaves children who have special learning needs (ADD/ADHD)with no options but alternative school. These kids are labled at trouble makers and often singled out as 'problems to be eliminated'. School should provide alternative means to teach children with problems retaining directions and staying focused.
