Where in the world did this web site get the false/inaccurate information they used in order to rate DCC a 1 out 10?? Last year was our first year as an accredited and registered Alternative School of Choice with TEA. We are in the process now of completing our Fall PEIMS submission of data regarding last year. Most of the data reported by TEA this fall was regarding the 2009-2010 school year when we were NOT a school yet, so the data did not pertain to us; however, even that data reported was very good. No one from this web site has ever contacted us to talk about our program, nor has anyone ever come to observe our teachers or speak with our students. Last year we serviced 252 "At Risk" students (9th - 12th Grade) and had a total of 92 graduates! We are highly regarded by our students, parents, community and other school districts who have used us as a model to start their own accelerated alternative programs. I challenge someone from this web site to contact/visit DCC and learn more accurate facts about our school. I promise you, you will be impressed with the quality of our program!
DCC has met the challenges of an alternative school. The program has allowed many students a flexible program to meet their needs and allowed them to graduate. Hope, motivation, and a heightened self esteem is the result of dedicated staff and teachers. DCC is a model alternative school needed in many of our Texas school districts.
This is one of the best programs that our district offers, although it is an alternative program. This school tackles the problems of crime and poverty head on by giving the children affected by these problems a chance to succeed. The students who are usually simply marginalized or treated like "problem children" by the district are given individualized attention in order to determine how they can best overcome their specific life circumstances. No other school in the district has done as much to lower crime rates in our community or to allow these previously overlooked kids to become the hardworking citizens we all know they can potentially be. Unfortunately, no other school within the district is as misunderstood by other district faculty. Talk to any DCC graduate, however, and you will hear rave reviews about the teachers, staff and program in general.
