As one of the previous parents mentioned below, the school requires parental involvement. If you have nothing else better to do than sit at home all day, this school is perfect. If you are a professional that works a lot, it is best to avoid this school. There is constant pestering for the parents to be involved. Also their methods of fundraising are very lazy. I personally could not stomach keeping my child in Discovery for a whole year.

I presently have 2 children in this school. The academics are impressive as children begin to learn science and social studies at the age of 4. However, there is a a lot of pressure on fundraising because it is a private school and it seems that every month parents are being asked to donate money. There are field trips for the children, but unless the parent is a stay at home parent it is difficult to accommodate these excursions. The areas of improvement would be diversity, community building, and offering Spanish classes.

My children went to discovery school for a period of two months. I very much liked the outside of school activities such as touring the local fire station, however these activities required parental involvement over and above what a working parent could achieve. The activities were averaging at least a 1-2 hour commitment per week for parents. Also, we were less than happy with the academics. We would like our children to learn spanish and there was no such dual language programs available. Plus we did not feel the kids were getting much out of the montisouri philosophy of education. Many people recommended this school for us, but it wasen't for our children.
