My children attended this school for the year of 2012 to 2013 and was the worst school my children have been to. So many problems throughout the school year, where do I begin? When I first met the teacher she could not tell me what to expect or what my child would learn. Instead remained silent and finally ending that awkward moment with telling her about my child. Later on that year I asked the teacher if I could sit in class to observe my child ideal question for a concerned parent. She then told me that the Principal did not like the parents sitting in because it disrupts the children. Being a frequent sit in and volunteer at my child's other school I asked the principal directly and her reply was that she didn't mind just ask the teacher to make an appointmen. So after being lied to I was not very happy with this school. I wish it ended there but it didn't . I had several problems with the school and teacher because a parent is always concerned with their child's education but because I made so much commotion over my childs education my child paid for it. I do not recommend this school at all.
We have only been at this school a short time, but it is a bust compared to other schools we have dealt with. There is a huge lack of security. I have seen better playgrounds at daycare centers. Pick up and drop off is unorganized. Parent participation is low. There are no art programs. Very few music programs only allowed for older students. No before or after school programs available. Some teachers are great, others seem to be only following the others. Gym class everyday needs to be replaced with at least one music class and one art class at least once a week for every student. Every student get one computer class once a month, that is also far too little.
We've only dealt with this school for a short time, but it seems a lot has changed since older reviews were written. We have been nothing but pleased with the staff and teachers at Barron. Friendly and helpful faces are everywhere, and they hit a great balance between fun and educational. They aren't afraid of change, and when they see an opportunity to improve they take it. The cirriculum is pretty serious, but the kids aren't overwhelmed with stuff to do. The amount my child learned in one year alone is astounding to me, but she always looked forward to going to school. PE is done everyday as a grade level, and the 3 coaches are enthusiastic and committed. I'm out of room here, but this is a GREAT school!
New principal has made immense changes to environment of school! Learning has become fun again and parents are now an equal part of the learning team.
Administration of school has serious issues. Over the past few years, extracurricular activities have dwindled. Parents are also given the impression that only Grades 3 through 5 counts since they are the grades that take the TAKS test. To summarize, the current administration creates a hostile environment for students and parents alike.
Teachers seem helpful, very nice and available. The availibility of fine arts is terrible. PE is non-eventful.
Most of the teachers at Barron are very good. There is a lot of pressure during TAKS though and it is definately a disciplined atmosphere. The principal and assistant are very strict with the students as well as the parents.
The school has a wonderful scienc, math, and reading support. The leadership should be more friendly to the parents and students.
This is a good school but there is little parent involvement. However, the teachers are pretty good. I have been happy overall. It is a new school so I feel it will improve with time.
Good academics, Needs more extracurricular activities, medium level of parent involvement but parents are sent info on how to be involved
