My son currently attends a private catholic school in FL but we are moving to TX now. I hate that he has to leave the school he is in now but I hope to find a new school equal if not better. PLEASE HELP!
Hi. Have you tried using the "Find a School" feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page? You can enter a location and grade level, and see a list of all the schools in that area, and read any parent comments that have been made. Public schools are rated from 1 (low) to 10 (high) based on how their students performed on recent statewide testing. You can even do a "sort" just for private schools. I'd recommend visiting each before making a final decision, and then you can get a better feel for them, find out about extracurricular activities, etc.35368
Immanuel Christian School is the school for you! Not only does it teach the Bible, but children attend weekly chapel services. The curriculum is challenging, but you will be amazed at what your son will be able to do. The students there generally test 2-3 grades above average. The teachers are so caring, loving, and friendly. My daughter is in 8th grade and has been attending since she was three. You should check out their website at www.immanuelwarriors.org35367
I dont know about the private schools, I looked into them and they are beyond our means, but I can tell you if you want quality education stay away from EPISD.... this is the district my kids are stuck at right now...I am hoping to move so we have better options.66836
I am not from EP originally, my husband is. My husband has attended Catholic school throughout his school years. I started my son in Catholic Pre-K this year. I have encountered a bit of a problem. Most Catholic schools are minimun 70% Mexican nationals. My concern is that my son is in an informal ESL environment, which is hard because he is an English speaker. I think it is agreed all around that the education is no longer the same in El Paso Catholic schools. I would look into St. Marks Episcopal School in the Upper Valley or move into the Lundy or Tippin Elementary school area. 67331
Cielo Vista Elementary is the BEST in my opinion. It is central-east in location. It is public. 915-626-2000 Immanuel reigns as best private school. It is located on corner of Hawkins and Viscount, not upper valley. 915-778-6160 It teach A Beka curriculum. My 4 year old write in cursive and knows all his verses from the Bible for the year so far. Many spanish speaking children attend here. Grounds are beautiful. Prinicipal is kind, prayerful and consistant in demeanor.68406
The first questions that come to mind are: will you base the location of your residence in ELP on the school your son will attend or have you decided on a neighborhood already? ... If you prefer your son to continue in a private, Catholic school, I must say I haven't been impressed with many of the private, religious schools in ELP. Overall, I don't feel students are challenged/pushed academically as much as other secular, private or public schools. My kids and close relatives have attended Peace Lutheran, St. Clements, Cathedral, Immanuel (Baptist), Loretto, Lydia Paterson, and Father Yermo. The last 4 are my LEAST favorite. As for public schools, I can only speak highly of Poke and Tippin elementary schools, specially their GT programs. You get private school quality. I have also heard great things of Alicia Chacon Elementary, specifically for their emphasis on foreign languages/culture. Elementary and middle school students are not only polyglot (English and Spanish plus choice of Japanese, Chinese, German or Russian) but are also immersed in the 3rd language/culture.74349
THIS IS A WONDERFUL SCHOOL MY GRANDSON SUFFERED FROM PTSD AND THE PRINCIPAL AND STAFF WERE THE GREATEST WHEN IT CAME TO MAKING SURE THAT HE PROGRESSED IN ACADEMIC SCORES YOU COULDN'T FIND A BETTER SCHOOL IF YOU ARE LIVING IN THE NORTHEAST AREA OF EL PASO. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET YOUR CHILD ATTEND CROSBY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND STAFF ARE WORTHLESS.!!!!!! 74380
