Teachers are effective. The behavior and lack of support from the principal is what negatively impacts teacher effect.

Homework is give and controlled by teachers, so it has always been done right, in our experience.

The principal is mediocre and does not believe in pushing students too hard. What is worse is that the weak teachers are allowed to be weak while the strong teachers pick up all the slack.

The disrespectful and dangerous students have been allowed to take over and have too much power.

The teachers we have had the pleasure of working with really love their students and build a great culture in their classrooms.

The more students misbehave the more attention they receive. It has been known that the counselors even purchase treats for students with the most severe behavior issues.

It's a shame that the current principal did not know how to manage discipline issues. Teachers are phenomenal and work so hard, but they are honestly always spinning their wheels because of the lack of support.

It's a terrible mess. If you want your child to be academically successful and go on to college - move way from this district. I am taking my child out very soon and moving two hours away from this place. She has been attending Elgin Elementary for nearly two years and has hardly learned a thing. My younger sister also attended this school and didn't learn how to read until she was almost 12 years old. They failed to provide her with individual tutoring as well. Also, when my sister was beat over the head with a tray in the cafeteria, they did NOTHING. My daughter received death threats on the school bus, what did they do? They confined HER to one seat on the school bus. Please, please - do not send your children here.

Bring back a male principal. The new principal bit off more than she could chew. Go back to being a teacher and take care of your health and family.
