I attentded this school last year. And all I can it wasn't all that great. First off I was sent home for ''sagging'' when my shorts were perfectly on my waist with a belt. The only reason it did look like that was because I had to wear my older brother's shorts since I get hand me downs. Anyways It was hard making friends here . Most of the kids are muslim, which I have no problem with but they left me out most of the time. This school was depressing and I felt as if I was alone here. The education is great! Barley any sports but academic wise the school was awesome!
Terribly unorganized, questionable safety & security and way too many kids in a very, very limited space. 26-28 kids per classroom in a very small building where there should be no more than 16 kids in a classroom as it was before. Already looking for new school.
well its impo to me to support my kids school but i wish they could step to this page and try to take an action regarding parents comments they are good people but need to take more care for the details any ways im grateful to most of the teachers around my kids
No flexibility, No communication, No care, No organization! If you plan to put you children into this school, I am convinced that you will regret it. This school is crazy. Teachers and administrators have favoritism toward white children and Turkish. The drop-off and pick-up system always make parents mad. I had to be at the drive-through way on 1:30pm to pick up my child in time. Most teachers are not qualified with teaching students. Most of them are novices. Your children will not be able to get anything from the worst teachers.
My son was going to Harmony in 3rd grade . But we have some emergency .I have medical condition like that doctors wont allow me to drive. But I love this school . Teachers specially the special education teacher she is so wonderful my son learned a lot in first 4 weeks that he did not learn in last whole year.People at the front desk they are so helpful that make me so hard to leave this school .I love this school .I will go again if I will be able.
Daughter and son attended for 3 years. We echo many of the previous reviews, both positive and negative. The best teachers don't stay. Kids are in Arlington schools this year and seem prepared for their classes, so that says something about the instruction they received. On the whole, there were just too many negatives to continue at HSA-Euless. During the 2013 science fair, we made a list of all of the things that annoyed/perplexed us: 1) Magnet classes were canceled during the first few weeks of the fall 2012 semester. 2) Disorganization. Kids had wrong schedules for the first 4-5 weeks of school in Fall 2012. 3) They require expensive uniforms that you can only buy from HSA, but they never have enough. For two years, my son made do with 2 shirts each year. 4) Idiots in the parking lot. Very unsafe. Lack of safety procedures in parking lot. 5) Irrational adherence to dress code. 6) Poor language skills of Turkish teachers. 7) Administrators are not responsive. 8) Teachers let students turn in way too much late work. 9) Grade inflation - daughter should not get 100 on every assignment. 10) Mystery of Turkish influence (see 60 Minutes story for a start). 11) High teacher turnover.
Student teacher ratio was actually worse than a public school they were not well established and made up DUMB rules as they went. Harmony was a huge mistake. The food was horrible my kid is in 6th grade and this year they have way more students and decided we have to pick up our kids like they were in pre-k with a paper with their name on. One at a time the traffic in that place is ridiculous. For that and many reasons more I choose to transfer my daughter to HEB which has turned out to be so, oh, so much better.
This is one of the greatest schools. The teachers are the best i have nothing bad to say about harmony. Harmony science academy euless is just wonderful.
This school is slow and unorganized. Too many people. The cafeteria is packed. The hallways are packed. Two years ago there was more space to walk around. Last year there were good teachers and now most of the good teachers are gone and replaced with ones that aren't so good. Horrible just horrible.
Posted August 6, 2013 I cannot say enough positive things about this school Great teachers and great staff. Excited for this year for both my kids!!
I wish I can put 0 star for this school. They had a good teacher. However, they had a poor management. We had problem with the vice principle for K- 4 grade at Euless campus. He instructed me to keep walking and do not ask any question to the teacher. We missed the orientation due to job related out of town. We just have to inform my son teacher that he has sister in the kindergarten and I will pick them up together. He screamed to us to keep walking so the teacher did not get a full information from me. I could not find them in the afternoon when I picked them up due to partial information in the morning. When I asked to talked with him in the afternoon (he was playing internet in front of me), the receptionist told me that I have to set up an appointment via email. Good teacher with a bad service.
When I first found out my lil kindergarten girl was accepted, I was very happy...then the bad news begins. The first day of school kids were sent to the wrong class. The first few days my little girl was asking me for something while I had barely dropped her off, and the teacher on duty just shoved her in the building without considering what she had to say...2 days later I ask my lil girl how her day went, and she told me "I fell asleep in the cafeteria & when I woke up, everyone was gone" how do you seriously forget a student??? Well then they made her walk to her class with it being her first week of class & to top it she was in kinder....the worst part the teacher never mentioned this to me...then when I confronted her about it she tried to blame the computer lab teacher, but I knew that wasn't the case because my lil girl Told me that when she finally made it to her class the teacher asked her "where have you been?" Wow! Really? I confronted the principal too & she did nothing...very disappointed in this school. I took her out the next day....definitely not what I expected....
I cannot say enough positive things about this school. From the GREAT teachers to the administration and parent involvement .Their advanced curriculum far exceeds even my high expectations. I absolutely would recommend them to any parent that wants the best for their children.
To the parent that said all the negative reviews are from parents that want the teachers to raise their kids.... I have read nothing here that shows anything but the concern these parents have for their children and the concern they have for an institution they entrust their child's education to. That said, my child has been at harmony for 3 years and my concerns over the past year have been in regards to the office staff being uninformed on school policies and not returning phone calls, the website not updating critical information, awesome teachers that are tossed aside and forced to quit, teachers that display such bad use of the written and spoken English language that it is frightening and confusing for the kids, teachers that don't treat all children in the class the same in regards to giving help when asked, and principals that ignore emails. There has been no lack of trying to make this the experience I had hoped it would be for my child, but the school is failing miserably. Please please Harmony heed the words of those of us who want nothing but the best and who desperately need a good alternative to the public school system.
This was our first year at Harmony. We moved from our exemplary elementary because our son, who excels in math and science, was not challenged. We placed our kindergartener at Harmony as well. Yes, there are definitely some growing pains at this school, and it is not perfect. But overall, we are very pleased with the education our children are getting at Harmony. We, and the kids, loved their teachers this year. My son says HSA is definitely more challenging than his old school, and that his regular classes at HSA incorporate activities that he was only getting in the gifted program at his prior school. My hope is that some of the disorganized feeling around the administrative side of things will continue to improve, and that more parents will commit to being involved with the school. (As to the discipline issues others have mentioned, we did not have any significant problems with the discipline system. One issue was brought to a teacher's attention and quickly resolved.) Oh, and the superintendent came to a PTO meeting and gave his cell phone number to all the parents to use if there are any issues not being addressed adequately at the school level.
Great school. All the negative reviews are probably from parents that want teachers to raise their kids. The school is not perfect but my kids are challenged daily and are thriving. We stay involved and have had no issues.
The 9 of 10 rating is very much due to past reviews because I am in total agreement that there has been such a decline in quality at this school. My child has also been there 3 years now and the first year was great... he made friends and thrived academically. He came from an environment in public school that was rampant with bullys and when he came to Harmony there was so much diversity that it was a wonderful mix and no room for bullys. Even though I had to commute from Irving daily he was happy and that's all that mattered! Now there is not only bullying by students but sadly there appears to be bullying and discrimination by the teachers. Grammar by the teachers in email correspondences is atrocious. I am sad because I feel certain I will have to move him to a different school but no matter how you try to address issues with staff and principals there is no sense of urgency to resolve anything. No one seems to care about the children anymore and they are suffering and stressed. They pass out "dps" points like candy and my child has never been a trouble maker but has to experience consequences when others cause problems. :(
This school is awful. Every year there is a new principal, new staff, and no organization. There is a lack of importance on the kids they have because they focus more on accepting EVEN more kids! There is no focus on older grades and it's so small! The building itself has about three hallways.
In a state of rapid decline. Our daughters started Harmony 3 years ago and at the time we thought that it was amazing. It has been declining since. The staff has a turnover rate such as I have never seen. The office staff is constantly changing, many teachers don't last a year, and last year they changed principals 3 times, not that you will ever see or be able to contact the principle anyway (I have tried several times to schedule a conference and regardless of what the receptionist tells you, you will never get a call back.). They are completely disorganized and no one ever knows the answer. Bullying is completely overlooked and runs rampant and discipline is a joke. We enrolled our children because we thought it would be an amazing learning experience (which it was the first year) the last two years have been steadily worse and we do not know a single parent who is having their child return next year.
I consider myself a normal parent, after hearing about HSA from my peers, I thought apply for my daughter and she was accepted. We love this school. Because it is a charter school, the standards are much higher than that of public schools. Sometimes a mistake is made, it happens. I get over it and fix it. I am at the school quite often, as there a lot of parent-involving activities. The teachers are gentle but firm when it comes to disciplining the students. And the kids in this school behave so much better than the kids in my sister's school (my sister is a teacher in a public school). My sister also agrees. She plans to apply here for her daughter next year. We have A LOT of parents who have absurd expectations from this school. It's normal. They want only the very best for their kids. I have had no problems with them. When I have questions, I ask. And if I do not understand I ask again. It is the best school my daughter has attended and am very satisfied with their performance. It is worth the lottery-based application for me :)
