Windsong Montessori School

I had my 3 kids in this school for three years. They combine ages 3-6 in one class. I noticed that everything my kids knew, they learned from me, so what were they learning in 10 hours a day at school that I was paying an outrageous amount of $800/month for ($9,600/year). I asked one of the teachers and she said honestly with ages 3, 4, 5, 6 all in one class, they really couldn't teach them anything because they are all at much different levels. Makes sense to me. My problem with this is that they tell you that they teach your kid and they obviously do not. I pulled them out and sent them to Christ United where they definitely were getting teaching for most of the day for about $450/month. I just feel like a fool for taking 3 years to realize that there wasn't any learning going on at Montessori.

My child is in the beginner program and I'm proud to say he is absorbing so much within the semester he has been attending Windsong. I trust his teacher that is very educated in this method. And apparently was a student there. Montessori through and though. Amazing place to bring bring a child!

The staff is diverse, in terms of experience, ethnicity, age, and gender; that diversity is something I value and was absent in most of the schools we visited. Curriculum, year-round, is relevant, robust, and challenging. Montessori isn't for everyone. Not for every kid and certainly not every parent. It takes a great deal of parental involvement to make it work. Parents have to become comfortable without the usual public school metrics, like grades and test scores. But that effort is rewarded every time I see my kids ask intelligent questions that I know good and well wouldn't be encouraged in a public school with 25+ kids in a classroom, lectured to by an overworked, underpaid, underappreciated public servant. Pros: dedication of staff, cleanliness of facilities, modern gym equipment, parental access to classrooms, private school bus for field trips Cons: lack of organized music program

My kids have attended a total of 5 years- it is a gift I give them every month. I have wanted my children to attend Montessori since I read about the system in a college child development class. Windsong is all that a school could be; trained personnel, secure building, open learning centers, well cared for class pets, cleanliness, children accomplishing life and academic skills in a quiet environment. A number of families have been at this school for years and probably will be throughout their childs school years.

First when I walked in the school, the director made me feel very uncomfortable. Fake laughs and I felt as if she was just trying to sugar coat everything. The Pre-School teachers sat every time I walked by. The elementary and toddler classes seemed to be hard at work...that seemed to be the only pro about this school. I would not recommend this school.

Windsong is a wonderful school & environment, not in the least bit crowded. All class room dividers are glass so the school is very bright and sunny. The Montessori teaching is excellent. We all love that Windsong keeps animals galore: birds, lizards, turtles, fish, rabbits, gerbils, etc. and the children are encouraged to get to know them. There is an overall appreciation of and respect for life that only adds to the educational aspect of the school environment. The summer program is awesome lots of field trips and swim outings. My kids love it and are never bored there. The discipline at times seemed stricter than necessary, but my boys soon understood that an infraction of the rules meant loss of privileges and no amount of whining would get them back, so I approve. Truly a great school!

I have had my children enrolled at Windsong for over 5 years. I have found the staff to be dedicated and experienced and the school is warm and family-friendly. My two children have been in both the Primary and Elementary programs and have far exceeded my expectations...they are both testing above grade level for their ages. We have attended two other Montessori schools in the past and this one is the most calm, respectful and peaceful that we've experienced. I haven't seen the teacher turnover mentioned in the previous posting, but have seen a change in intern assistants who are helping in classes for experience during the year they are working on their training. All the main teachers have been in place since we've been attending. We would recommend Windsong to anyone.

high teacher turnover. 7 in a school year. minimal communication from school despite multiple attempts to communicate. school was quick to label. adequate education.
