Very disappointed with this school... it's the first school we've been to where they do not allow you to walk your child to class and instead make you say goodbye at the entrance. I have also found the office staff to be extremely rude and arrogant, they speak to parents in a demeaning way as if they think they are superior, absolutely no people skills... very disappointed overall.
I absolutely love this school!! My daughter loves her teacher! They have made her feel at home and really helped her to cope with being at our first duty station away from family and friends!
The Reason for a one star, ok well lets start with the Major Problem we had through-out the year; The Special Education Teacher thought she was a doctor and did not agree with the actual doctors diagnosis of ADHD and ODD. Our son has had some issues with the speech theapy; One she only worked with him once a week, and they worked on the same topic the whole year! Terrible service for special needs. We asked for a meeting to discuss the Special Education and they would not give us a meeting until the end of the year which never happened because my husband was deploying shortly after the school year. Don't get me wrong there are a few Great Teachers there Ms. Pierce, Bowyer, Price, and Ferrell. Our Childeren will be home schooled before they return to Duncan.
I love Duncan Elementary school, The staff, Parent Liaison and PTA is Great!!!!! They have a lot of Programs.
THe principal is good at running the school, but doesn't understand children! They should replace her with the Vice Principal who is always happy and smiling and seems to care about children and productivity alike.
This school has great school spirit and positive atmosphere for children. Great academics, and a great music program. This school won a nationwide character award. The program for children with deployed parents is upbeat and supportive. Teachers are knowlegable and love what they do. Great gifted and talented programs and awesome follow through with IEP and special needs support.
Just moved to Fort Hood / Killeen over the summer of 2008, and my daughter started 3rd grade this school year. Teachers and staff have been excellent, and communication between the parents and teachers is great. Good use of take-home materials for students, homework assignments are around average for grade level, and the parent-teacher communication folder and planner allow the parents to track the students progress daily, and to send notes to the teacher. I'm definitely impressed with this school so far.
My Children came from a DOD school in Kentucky to Duncan. We were so upset with the quality of their education at Duncan. My Children never brought school work home. One of my children weren't doing spelling tests in the 2nd grade, They didn't have a AR reading program, and they did this everyday in Kentucky. We pulled our kids out after one year and put them in a private school. It is amazing what my children are learning now, compared to Duncan.
The Parent Teacher Liason is fantastic. She has a true desire to make the school and existing programs, especially the PTA a total success. Great job Mrs. Ruby, keep up the fantastic job.
I have two kids in this school. My son has done kinder there and now 1st grade. My daughter did pre-k there and now kinder. The teachers they've had have all been wonderful. My son was a bit behind at the end of kinder, but his teacher, Mrs Longoria, has Really worked with him and he's caught up for the most part. If there is anything that needs attention she lets me know right away and is always there if I have concerns. Even with his ADHD he has developed a Love for schoolwork and reading. My daughter's teacher I cannot say enough about. Mrs Pierce is Wonderful. My daughter was a bit behind last year and is now ahead of the curve! They both Love going to school and coming home to do schoolwork. The office staff is great as well, and really remember their kids. Love this school!
