I was hoping the former principal would come back. She spent a lot of time in the classrooms and in the halls and loved the children. The new principal never leaves her office and gets upset when parents ask to see her.
Washinton hieghts is my childhood elementary school. My nephews attened there now. I think this schools staff works very hard with thier students to make sure they can become succesfull. The parents on the other hand are not very involved. In turn the whole community suffers. Teachers try to reach out to parents with no response, and parents put all the responsibility on the techer to help our children rise to the challenge. The outcome is seen later with a high rate of high school drop outs. If education would become more important than the latest spanish soap opera than our children would rise. Not only to become more succesfull in school but in life. The staff provides every oppurtinity for families to become involved but it takes more than just coming to the school to drop off your kids.Use those same doors to come in and become invoved.Knowledge is power.
