Find another school. There is nothing special about the teachers. Most seem are there just to get a paycheck and not a love of teaching kids. Low parent involvement. Not the schools fault but they don't try to make it better either. Very poor communication!! We were given a website at the beginning of the year and it's never updated. We perfer going online to get information than getting a paper in our son's folder, so it's not laziness on the parents part but on the school's. The rec. was a big problem we had. We were going to let our son go to play with his classmates after school. When the form was sent home it never mentioned the kids would get a ride with parents. When we found out we didn't let our son go. Our son is young so I don't trust him with just anyone. And for the school to pass him off to someone we don't know was a huge problem. It may be 3 min. away but 3 min. is a long time when you don't know what your kids are being exposed to. It's not fair to blame parents and students for St. George's shortcomings. The staff is there as leaders and they make the school what it is. They maybe poor but it doesn't mean the kids can't have fun learning.
Sure the school is poor, but it does well with what it has. Computers work, who cares if they're old. The teachers work with the students, but the problem is that sometimes there are 3 different levels of students in the same classroom (not always the teacher's fault) so teachers are really good. As for lunch...its online, don't be lazy. The teachers have EXPERIENCE in the classroom and know how to teach. As for going to the rec, it would be a safety hazard to walk in thunder or lightning and at the beginning of the year parents sign a waver saying that they allow their children to ride with parents. The place is like 3 minutes away, they're not in danger because the school isn't going to let a family with questionable background in anyways. So chill, it's the first year with a new principle and they're getting situated. Transition is never smooth sailing, but they do well under the circumstances. (extra curricular is based on who signs up...some students can be lazy and don't want to do it, so no one can)
There is a reason this school is the poorest in the diocese and you get what you paid for .The computers are ancient as are the books. Poor communication. No extracurricular activities for more that 5 kids at a time to participate in. They pride themselves on child safety and then send your kids with strangers to the rec. PE is laughable. New principal is rude. No longer the family like atmosphere. Check the teacher credentials you think you are getting private school education but they barely have BA's.
DON"T DO IT!!! The price is good compared to other catholic schools in Fort Worth but looking back I would pay the extra $1,000 and put him in another school. If your child has to go to afterschool care at the rec. center on bad weather days they will send your children with other parents. I care to much about my kids to trust them with a stranger. When they asked me to take some kids I said no and I got the ugliest look from the teacher. She didn't know me I could of been a family friend and she offered me other people's kids. Also there is no communication at the school. They don't tell you what's going on. My son came home one day and told me that they are now teaching spanish then two months later he comes back and said they are back to teaching vietnamese. They never update lunch menus or calenders. My son liked school before and now not so much. I just hate for parents to look at the reviews and think it's a great school. The last post was in 2009 and there has been changes. It's a small school but you pay thousands of dollars and don't get that much in return. The computers are old, the books seem a better fit for a younger class. Good luck.
I personaly would like to Thank all the teachers and staff at St. George. I feel this school is full of smart and moral people. I learned things that are a bit ahead of the freshmen high school level and that has really helped. Thanks to St. George I am at the top of all my freshmen classes!
St George gives my children the values and education that will help them now and in the future. It is a great school with a great and dedicated staff.
I drive over 20 miles one way to get my son to St. George! That says it all about the school! Excellent student to teacher ratio!
St. George School was a blessing for me. An affordable alternative to public school and a very rewarding experience for both myself and my children. Both my children attended St. George their entire elementary through middle school years. They received the values and education every parent hopes for. As my children entered public high school, it has only proven to me that their years at St. George was an excellent decision.
I am a former student, and I would like to say: St.Goerge gave me some of the best times of my lifes.
