SCS is a great school. This is a place where all the teachers and staff know my children by name. They are greeted with a hug and smile everyday and they are excited to go to school. I love SCS as a parent because I have made many friendships that have been essential to guiding my children through growing up and maturing. It is a family not just a school and the most important part is that God is the most essential part of all things at SCS. IT is a great school.
This year was my son's first year at SCS as a 6th grader. He has had the greatest year and can hardly wait to move up to the prep campus next year. Throughout the year he has continuously made comments about how much he likes the kids, how much the teachers teachers care and how happy he is to be able to talk about his faith at school. Being at SCS has ignited a new excitement in him for school! As a parent, I feel confident he is ready for the rigorous middle school curriculum ahead and I'm so thankful he will be sharing those "awkward middle school years" with awesome kids and caring teachers who won't treat him like just a name in a grade book. I highly recommend Southwest Christian and suggest you check it out!
I graduated there in 2010, the campus is amazing but that's where it stops being a great school. The curriculum is sub standard. After going to university for a month I could tell I was behind the curve. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone that cares about education. It was the biggest waste of money.
This is my son's second year at Southwest Christian and I feel it is a perfect fit for my son. The the class size is much smaller than public schools allowing teachers to focus on each child individually as well as collectively. Before each school year the teachers prior year teacher as well as administration come together to place your child with a teacher that will best help them grow and thrive in the upcoming year. There is a lot of parent involvement and this further helps the success of the school and your child. "It takes a village to raise a child" and SCS is a perfect village to love and help your child grow
Southwest Christian School has high academics and phenomenal teachers. Our children have commented on the great character of their teachers. The teachers instill confidence in the students with encouraging affirmations. Here, there are truly Christian and highly professional educators. The approachable teachers facilitate a positive learning environment for our children. Also, the school balances the need for family time with the pursuit of academic endeavors, by avoiding excessive busy-work type homework. In the classroom, there is a deliberate and purposeful approach to offer a more in-depth grasp of the subject matter, instead of going at an unreasonable pace merely to boast that the material was covered. At SCS, you can guide your child's academics, while the school actually takes on the role as formal educators. This approach allows our children to be more self-sufficient, because assignments are relevant and developmentally appropriate. This school gets it right.
My child has been going to this school for 8 years! He loves it there and will never get tired of it. They have great teachers and a great curriculum. I enjoy seeing these kids praise and worship God. Their chapel services sometimes brings me into tears of joy. I'm so happy my child goes here and has Many friends that are very well mannered and pollite. However there are many expenses. This school is a great school and I love it.
Wonderful school, they balance out the standards of academics, though not as rigorous as competitors, and yet challenging. The school prepares them well for college AP courses in the high school. The religion is not to the point where you feel your competing with schools beliefs and church. This school has expectations and morals, guidance and standards with a good education. Wonderful language program and strong handwriting and reading skills influenced. Laptop technology is available with supervision and full time counselor, librarian, nurse, and fully trained accredited staff. The school is friendly and caring.
Very clickish - I saw one comment that it is a great flock, if you are accepted. very true. And if you are a stay at home mommy. they are very big on religion and its trappings and very very very short on academics. for the $$$ you pay, you get nothing, espeically when you compare them to the other private schools in town that SCS likes to compare itself to. Most teachers are a student's mom - I dont think they ever look outside the moms wanting to go back to work for any position. Not good. Save your money unless you just like to spend it.
This school is incredible! We are so fortunate to have such a well-rounded Christian school. My children have enjoyed participating in sports and the fine art programs! They are maintaining high averages and scoring at the top on national standardized tests. We love, love, love SCS!!
Academics are OK but not geared for top universities. Teachers are variable - some very good but most not. Athletic program is in shambles from administration to team coaches with very few bright spots.
Strengths: Dr. Penny Armstrong is a wonderful president and I believe will improve this school as long as she stays, the students here are extremely accepting and everyone feels special no matter who they are, strong Christian environment Weaknesses: Poor education (if you choose to send your children here they most likely will not get into a state school unless they the are the valedictorian), teaching staff is very hit or miss - there are some incredible teachers but many extremely poor teachers, and as someone else stated this school definitely picks its favorites - if you have been to SCS your whole life you can get away with murder, but if you come in middle or high school you will be subjected to ridiculous rules All in all not a horrible school if you want your child to have a Christ centered education and don't mind limiting their college choices.
Two of my four granddaughters attend Southwest Christian School. I pray that when they reach school age, my other two granddaughters will also attend there. At Southwest Christian School I have seen nothing short of excellence; excellence in my granddaughters academic levels and excellence in teaching these children a true love for God. Students who graduate from SWC should be ready for college, achievers in today's fast paced world, and ready to lead others to Christ. The school teaches the children the importance of family. They do this by involving extended family (aunt, uncles, and grandparents), as well as parents, to most school activities. One example is that grandparents and parents are allowed to eat lunch with the children. Another example is that extended family is invited to their chapel. Every year Southwest Christian has a Grandparent's Day presentation. I believe this instills in them a spirit of giving of themselves. I feel confident that when I am very old I will not be forgotten by my grandchildren largely because of things that they have been taught at Southwest Christian School. Love of country is strongly emphasized at this school. Children from Southwest Christian should grow up to be informed and active voters. This is a must for our nations survival. It is a school of marked excellence.
My daughter attended SCS for 13 years from kindergarten through twelfth grade. It was the best investment we could've made. The environment is nurturing and loving. SCS truly is Christ-centered and keep the focus on Christ in all areas from academics even to sports. My daughter graduated with 24 hrs of college credit through their dual credit program. The college-preparatory curriculum coupled with the Christian focus makes SCS the best choice in Fort Worth for private education.
I want to start off this review by stating I wish we could offer ratings on different aspects of the school. The ratings would be: Safe Atmosphere 4-5 stars(This aspect is almost worth the cost per year vs Public schools) Curriculum 2-3 stars (not challenging in any sense of the word)VERY WEAK NOT a COLLEGE PREP Lives up to Christian aspects as marketed 3-4 stars(Some Teachers respond quickly while other simply ignore your requests) Standards of student acceptance(based application criteria) 1-2 stars on most points Holding all students to same rules 1-2 stars (Students that have been there since the beginning of school career are coddled or behavior is ignored in spite of the pain it causes others) Overall rating for value vs cost 3 Mainly because of atmosphere. My child loved attending SCS, but was not challenged and occasionally made fun of for making 100's all of the time. The result? My child decided to dumb down to fit in socially.
We LOVE SCS! My daughter attended another well known private school in the area. I have to say I am glad we changed schools. It has been the best thing for my daughter and our family!
Both my children attended SCS for eight years. My spouse taught there as well. I can truly say that we were very excited to be a part of the SCS family early on, but people and students that SCS has allowed to come into the school have gradually pulled the reputation of the school to it's lowest. I would NEVER recommend anyone to attend SCS with an adminstration that bases their decisions on how much money a family gives. If you are looking for 'christ centered', don't let that phrase fool you. Most students are inconsiderate and are allowed way too many chances to 'get things right'. Both my kids attend public school now and have realized that SCS was not much different. In fact, my oldest was a straight A student at SCS and has struggled in math and writing in her new high school. Please look at another option.
This is a great Christian school if you are accepted into the flock . . . you will most certainly gain that acceptance if you donate enough money to have your own designated parking place, etc. Sadly, our son was not what they wanted; his teacher never even met with us face-to-face to tell us this. Instead, we recieved her refusal to allow him to continue at this school second hand. Words do not describe the pain our family has felt; our son is a loving and kind person. They told us he could no longer attend this school because he 'asks too many questions . . . and is a burden on the teachers.' Get this, we continue to recieve their requests for donations in the mail. You need to think twice before you send your child to this school.
My children have been attending SCS for several years, however I have decided to send them elsewhere. SCS seems to be drastically falling away from the type of school it once was. It used to be very passionate and focused on the Christian aspect of every child, never letting anyone through the cracks. Also, athletics has gone down to an almost none existent program, poorly adminstrated as it seems that nobody cares about athletics, very frustrating. I used to love the school and the people, now I feel that they are going in another direction, and my family had to go elsewhere.
Praise the Lord for leading us to Southwest Christian School! What a contrast to public school. We ve seen a tremendous change in our child. The teachers and staff coach with love, praise and encouragement. My daughter comes home happy and confident. She tells us about stories her teacher encouraged her to share. She attacks homework with a can do attitude . She even told us, I was on fire today , explaining how well she did her work in class. It just goes to show you that the positive reinforcement she receives during the school day goes well beyond the classroom. As parents we even noticed a difference with the parent communications. Everything has a very positive message vs. the dictatorial message we received from the previous school. Teachers and staff take the time to listen and are very responsive. The school makes good applicable use of technology. We love SCS!
Our family is very frustrated with this school do to the lack of support to all athletic programs. The administration says one thing but then they do something different. They have people in positions that do not know what they are doing. The administrors are not on the same page with the coaches or the board. The academics are great but they need to focus on building their athletic program in order to deserve all the stars people are putting up here for this school. Because of these issues we have moved our childern to a different school that does focus on both great acedemics and athletics.
