This was our first year at Hackberry and I have nothing but good things to say about the staff here. Professional, kind, personable, and love their students! Staff is wonderful. My son grew by leaps and bounds this year!
Great school, teachers, administrators, and students. We love Hackberry and the true dedication shown with our kids.
I absolutely love Hackberry Elementary. My son is in kindergarten and enjoys his wonderful teacher Mrs. Branch. I can't say enough great things about her. Thanks to Mrs. Branch for my son enjoying school. Anytime you visit her classroom you can tell the kids are always working hard but also having fun.
I am impressed with the way that this school cares for the students, in both emotional and academic areas, and appreciate the amount of communication and support that is given.
Great teachers that support and push their students to excel. The dual language program is great for primarily english speaking children to be challenged at such a young age and develop their brains.
Hackberry Elementary, LEISD - Little Elm, TX The principals are progressive & outstanding communicators in both Spanish & English, as are the teachers & counselor/s who work with each child to ensure a well rounded experience, to the best of their ability. It's still a TEAM EFFORT toward SUCCESS: parents + child + school. When parents want accountability take a good look in the mirror & be honest about one's involvement. Our son's been attending since kindergarten & we comfortably recommend this school - we're impressed with all the teachers who are eager to motive & inspire young minds to think outside the conventional learning box. The educators here are forward thinking & thankfully, we are seeing that in the ISD, despite some questionable past purchases. It's cool to attend a diverse school, & why not? We live in a diverse world! Yes, Spanish & English are the predominant langages! Some people pay more for this at private schools! Hackberry & all LEISD schools offer GT & AP Classes. My husband & I both hold higher edu. degrees, & like the ISD, hold high expectations. When the district wants the best from the students, as parents, we hold the ISD to the same standard. ;oD
Hackberry is a wonderful school for kids. the teachers are very very good to the kids. They help your children went they need it. The staff are very nice and help all the children. I work with the teacher with my child that how they learn.
Hackberry is improving every year! Great learning environment, great teachers, respects all cultures, & includes all who want to learn.
I moved to this area thinking that my child would be in Frisco ISD, only to find out otherwise. I decided to give it a try and I was very disappointed. My child came from a charter school and was way ahead of the other students. The teachers did nothing to teach to his level and he was constantly bored and began talking in class out of boredom. Like others have said, my child also had an issue with bullying on the bus, playground at recess, and in the classroom. I've been up to this school more times than I'd care to and I'm beyond fed up with their lack of interest in resolving issues and failure to provide my child with a curriculum that was challenging. They failed to follow through the gifted and talented program and the staff is full of excuses, not solutions. I will be putting my child back into a charter school while I search for a new home within the Frisco ISD. I was very disappointed, considering this school is rated "exemplary." Do not move to a house zoned in for this elementary school if you can help it.
I can't say enough about this school...it is wonderful. My first grader has an amazing teacher that goes above and beyond to ensure that he is learning all he can...and sometimes it is difficult since he has ADHD. The overall quality of learning is excellent and the consistent communication with his teacher allows for parent involvement to help with any possible opportunities and to also celebrate successes. Thank you to the Hackberry staff for all that you do!
We just moved to this area at the begining of this school year and we completely regret it! This is a terrible school! My child has been subjected to bullying all year long! Children in this school are incredibly mean, cussing by children is rampant in this school, and the teachers just don't care. My child has been threatened, hit, grabbed, and/or harassed by students, and TEACHERS! I have had so many meetings with teachers and the principal and the problems just continue. My child used to absolutely love school and look forward to going, but that is no longer the case. Grades have dropped and my child's self esteem is dropping considerably due to the almost daily bulling and harassment that my child endures in this school!! I will be putting my child in a new school again next year. Also, my child has been more sick this year than all other school years combined because they let children come to school very sick and infect all the other children!! I can't believe this school is still open!
Our children just finished their first year at Hackberry and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Both were a part of the dual language program offered by the school and we're thrilled at their progress after just one year. The teachers they had were amazing and very supportive. The communication coming home was excellent and the kids experienced no issues that caused us concern the entire year. Hackberry gets a grade of A in our book.
My daughter attended Hackberry when we relocated to the area. She moved during 3rd grade and we had a wonderful experience! We liked the fact that we were not "just a number" and you get the wonderful feel of a small town but the programs that the large school districts in the area offer. Hackberry is a school that offers a dual language program and is called a Magnet School by some districts. We moved from a neighboring school district and the work my daughter did at Hackberry was harder than the school we transferred from. We are so happy to be part of the Little Elm School District!!
My daughter just completed her Kindergarten year at this school. I can't say enough good things about it. I read below "every grade has a Spanish-speaking class." That is because a dual-language program runs at this school. If you did not sign up for this optional program, as I have, it doesn't affect you. My daughter is in the dual-language program and the learning did not stop as soon as the standardized tests were taken, she had homework, in Grade K, right up until the last week. I can't speak to the bullying, but I have not heard that from the other parents and it has not been an issue for my daughter at all. All in all, I think it's a great little school. Keep up the good work Hackberry.
To parents thinking of Hackberry Elementary; IF you can help it, don t put your kids in this school. This school has a bad bullying issue. They have the teachers hands tied on dealing with it. The admin staff has done nothing to stop the problems. It is to a point in the some grades that the teachers cannot teach their classes. They have gotten to the point that all they can do is to teach the new STAAR test to the students. Nothing is done to the disruptive students. Our kids are both coming home complaining about the issues on a daily basis. We have gone to the principal and she states she will take care of it and it keeps happening. Some of the disruptive kids are destroying others personal property and nothing is done. We are looking for an alternative to his school for our kids next year.
I had to remove my kindergartener from this school for bullying. He was punched on a few occasions, taunted and made fun of and called "ghost" because he is white and has blonde hair, he was poked in eye with pencil, had kids threaten to beat him up on the bus because he kept forgetting to bring Pokemon cards to trade, and the final straw was when he was CHOKED by another student in his class. I was constantly in touch with his teacher, and the principal and all they kept telling me is "it's gotten SO much better since the beginning of the year! And the principals answer to it, was "he looks happy when I go for class visits and I'll monitor the class closer". The teacher spends a lot of her day referreeing children who behave like animals and have no accounability. My child would come home and say such and such happened in my class today, I'd ask the teacher and she'd say he made it up. Other parents in the class have had same happen with their students. They have lunch @ 10:45 and no breaks or snack for remainder of day in KINDER!! My child is going to be held back in Kinder for one more year, due to the crazy year this has been for him. Principal and Teachers do not care!
Like others have said, yes, this school teaches for the taks test. This is not an issue for us as it does teach the fundamentals. We also work with our children to push them further. The bad thing about this school is 54% of the kids speak Spanish and little to no English. The only positive to that is both our kids are A-Honor role. We came from a VERY good school district and moved into a new community that unfortunately zoned us to this little ISD of a district. Clearly this is a large concern for us and other parents seeing how all functions, calls and hand outs are predominately in Spanish. This school tends to be more of a daycare for those parents on a budget and school is merely an option to send the kids. Most of the kids are gone by the 4th grade and staying home alone. This is not a school anyone would be proud to send their kids. We hope that FISD steps in and takes over the District
Amazing littlte school. Atmosphere that the teachers and principals have is very family/parent friendly. Seems they really are interested in the childrens needs first and foremost. My child has enjoyed all her years going to this school!!
Wonderful school, staff and teachers. The teacher of my son is excellent. very well organized..
I have a thrid grder and a kindergartner at Hackberry. The third grader has been there since kindergarten. The teachers my children have are excellent. They take the time to make sure my children are getting the support and education they need. They are very open and constantly communicating. The principal has always taken the time whenever we have asked to sit down and review our childrens' needs and help make sure they are getting the best education. My oldest is in the gifted and talented program and has really benefited from the enhanced curriculum she receives being able to go one full day a week to a distrct wide gifted and talented class.
