Both my kids have attended Smith Elementary, and my younger one still does. I just got back from attending one of their Celebrate Smith assemblies - a weekly celebration that happens every Friday. The infectious enthusiasm, the spirit that the the principal and the teachers infuse in the kids has to be seen to be believed. The principle is a visionary, he wants to make a difference. He gives teachers and parents the latitude to introduce new and wonderful programs. 8 years ago I went to him with a request to introduce Destination Imagination ath the school, he supported me and today the school has won Global 1st place for about 4 years in a row. And this is just one example. He has introduced a program called SMITH talks, modeled after TED Talks. The school hosts science fairs, spelling bees, Kindness challenges, in additon to the academic excellence that the staff fosters. We are truly fortunate to get to go to Smith Elementary.
This school is the testing ground for new FISD programs and new tests. So the children's time here is wasted with overtesting rather than teaching.
This is my second school year as a parent at this school. It is a wonderful, tight-knit, neighborhood school. The principal is fantastic, and I hope he continues to lead this school the entire time my children attend. The teachers are so wonderful, and truly have their hearts in their positions.
Smith is a fantastic elementary school. It was named a national Blue Ribbon school a couple of years ago. The teachers are wonderful, the principal is connected to the kids and participates in their activities with them. Our son, who is a junior in high school, went there from 1st through 5th grade, and our daughter is just finishing 5th grade there this week. We have considered moving to a different neighborhood a few times over the past 10 years, but always decided to stay because we didn't want our kids to move out of Smith. It really is an incredible school.
We moved from Carrollton to Frisco and started this school in January. 5th grade teachers are outstanding. This rigor and excitement is over the top. Project based experiential work for the kiddos and a principal who truly has school spirit. Only recommendation I would add is for the school to consider 'buddy' programs for new students AND to have the homeroom teacher meet week 1 or 2 with the new student and parents. We had to 'figure' a lot out on our own initially without an 'orientation' to the new school or classroom. Overall highly recommend this school
This school is great as far as the energetic spirit and the Principle is the best. The kids are a different story. There are more bullies in this school and the teachers don't seem to do anything about it. The parents of these bullies should be ashamed of themselves not teaching their children morals and values!!
My kid's in 1st grade now and our experience with this school is excellent :) Love the school, teachers and the energetic spirit of the principle.
Keeping our two daughters (1st and 2nd graders) at Smith is keeping us from moving into a much needed larger home. Smith is a wonderful school with amazing teachers and staff!
My daughter has attended Smith for the last 5 years and overall it's a wonderful school. The teachers are great and attentive to every child's needs. The academics is top notch and the children are highly challenged in all subjects. The principal is the best - hands down!
Smith is absolutely top notch! All 3 of my children attend Smith and I can tell you that it would be break my heart if any of my children would have to leave before they completed elementary there. My expectations for another school could never be met anywhere else. My kids have been educated, loved, and well taken care of! The looping program is great too- all 3 of my kids have gone through it and it has been awesome- a truly great program!
We spent 4 wonderful years at Smith. My oldest child spent K-3 there before we moved. We are heartbroken. I went to our next school in Lewisville ISD with expectations that just could not be reached. We have sense pulled both children out and they will attend private school next year. Although like all public schools the TAKS test is important at Smith it did not seem to be the focus the entire year. The teachers and administrators at Smith educated my children they did not just teach the kids how to take the TAKS. Julie Hill is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. If your child gets her they will have an enthusiasm for learning that is absolutely amazing. She loves each and every child from the easiest to the most challenging. She is positive, encouraging, and loving.
I have two children that attend Smith and I believe they have outstanding teachers. I have one child that was needing speech therapy and he was barely understandable in kindergarten and now you would never know he even had speech issues. My thanks to Susan Senn for this as well as his kindergarten teacher Lisa Lindsey who got him the early intervention he needed. Also, my thanks to Julie Hill who is by far one of the most oustanding teachers I have ever met. Her energy and enthusiasm and love for teaching just amazes me. I have never had any concerns except at one point there was an assistant principal that was very unnaproachable and in my opinion needing to be in a middle school environment. She has since retired and they now have a phenomominal new assistant principal in Mrs. Rapp.
My daughter spent her first year at Smith in 2005. We had a wonderful year with the teachers and assistant principal. They were both very helpful and vigilant in addressing any concerns and providing praise. It made for a wonderful experience and my daughter is looking forward to the new year.
This is a great school! the teachers really seem to care about the students and the curriculm is top rate.
Smith is an awesome school with higher learning standards and the best teachers around. I was impressed with the amount of attention and love provided by everyone towards my children.
Smith Elementary is an excellent neighborhood school. The parental involement is above and beyond with volunteers logging over 4000 hours yearly. The teachers truely care about all of their students and demonstrate it daily. The administration is fair and consistent with their discipline. The music, art, technology, and PE programs are also excellent. Overall an excellent school.
Great school! The teachers are tremendous and really seem to love their jobs. The principal is super with the kids, yet maintains control. We have 2 kids there and love it.
I just wanted to say that this school has the BEST teachers in Texas. It is my first year my son starts school (K) and I couldn't be any happier...All the things he has learned have me in shock still. But most important of all is that he was very shy and quiet. Now, he has opened up and has more confidence of himself. A special thanks to Ms. Julie Gutierrez. :)
My children have been going to Smith for 5 years and we have been very pleased. My son was struggling in Math and the teachers were very pro-active in working with him. They worked with me to get him tutoring after school and he is now in Middle School making A's and B's in Math. My daughter still has another year at Smith and we have been pleased with every teacher she has had there. Thank you Smith for making my children's elementary years an enjoyable learning experience.
