This school is not safe for any child!The principal asked for this information to be kept quiet!!A male,a stranger has been going around hugging and kissing on children.A little girl and along with other children.The principal was informed about this man.The male has two grandchildren who attend KIPP,so this was the principals excuse as to why this man is allowed to enter the school around other children unsupervised and allowed to receive physical contact from children with or without parents knowledge of physical contact.Very bad principal.He is a disgusting poor excuse of a human being for not doing his job to protect our children.The police have been notified.If you want a safe school for your child this is not it!

This school has overcome many obstacles... and it is over coming another with flying colors. The teachers and learning have NEVER been short of amazing. In fact I cannot say enough about my children s teachers Ms. Settle and Ms. Gonzales. My children love going to school... they hate when I come to pick them up. School is fun and both of my children have exceeded expectations for their age and grade level. My son is in the 99% for math out of the entire nation. He was in the top 50 kids for star testing last year in our county. He is not in an advanced class. One of the things that I love is that they teach the student, not the class. If a child is having trouble they pull that child out and teach one on one. The children doing well never get held back they keep advancing them. The parents that are involved are wonderful however being one of the parents in the KPA I can say we would love more help. BUT that is normal in every school. No school is perfect. I can t expect 100% of the parents to help out with fundraisers, even though it would be nice ;) Regardless, I can honestly say that the Staff love those kids and they go above and beyond.

I would like to refute the statement that learning came to a halt made by the parent in the previous review. My child has been attending KIPP for four years and is reading well above grade level, did excellently on benchmark tests, loves school, and has an excellent teacher. There are occasional behavioral issues with some of the children in the classroom. This is part of growing up and being part of a diverse group of students. One thing that could improve is parental involvement.

This would have been our third year at KCV. We were previously very pleased with the education, school culture and diversity of the students. However, in the 2013-14 school year, some very disturbing changes occurred. Learning came to a halt, and the formerly very strong emphasis on the WHISPER values (Wisdom, Honor, Internal Control, Spirit, Persistence, Excellence and Relationships) became nonexistent. What was once a calm, excellent learning environment turned into classrooms with rampant, sometimes dangerous misbehavior from the students which is being tolerated by the new principal. I was left with no choice but to remove my children mid-year for fear of their safety.

This is my sons second year at Kipp and we couldn't be happier. This school is very diverse and dedicated to the students. As if the 10 hour days weren't enough to prove the teachers determination they encourage and work one on one with parents to help insure that your child is reaching they're full poteintional. This is an amazing school that turns no child away and truly cares for every student. The new principle is a very friendly man who has taken to the Kipp family very we'll, he works with the students and parents on any issue that my arise and shows a passion to make this school even better. The curriculum is outstanding along with there values system, my son is learning Spanish, Legos, chess, art, technology and has PE as well. Overall this school works extremely hard to prepair our children for the future.

To the parent that posted recently. KIPP is not behind. KIPP teaches so that they know and understand what they are learning. Where as other schools teach to memorize. For instance in math... You will find that this is taught completely different than you and I learned back when we were in school. When kids are taught to memorize they will remember for a bit but completely forget soon after. I was concerned last year about the math... Not anything else because if you look at reading and everything thing else they are so much more advanced than other schools. In math I was concerned, until I was explained how and what kipp was doing. Then I went to the middle school and was amazed. The children didn't have to use paper to work out their math. They knew how to work the problem in their heads and FAST because they understood the problem. They would not have been able to do this with the traditional memorization. ( which they forget FYI ) I am truly saddened that you didn't wait for more than a few weeks. You would have seen this. Had you spoken to the head of the school or the KPA they would have shown you. Your child would have gotten a fantastic and real education at KIPP.

We enrolled our kids in this school with High hope's!!! but what was promised was not delivered... We knew their test scores were low!! But we looked over that because our home visit went so well with the wonderful lady that we talk to... But when we got there this year she was gone!!! Academically the school is behind!!! Very behind!!! Needless to say at the end of the day we had Enroll our children from this school so they could get a better education!!!!

My daughter (my youngest) is in 3rd grade and has been attending KIPP Coastal Village since Kindergarten. She is reading at an 8th grade level and loves to go to school. All of her teachers have been excellent and highly dedicated to their students. She has learned to play Chess, is learning Spanish, has a dedicated art teacher who is excellent, and attends technology classes weekly. She has also learned a lot about conflict resolution, self control, striving to do her best, and how to get along well with different types of people. She wakes up and is excited to go to school every morning. The new principal is friendly, accessible and listens well to his staff and parents. He lives within walking distance of the school and is extremely dedicated to making KIPP Coastal Village the best it can be. I can not say enough about this school. I am not saying this naively, as a parent, I have experienced several schools in Galveston and San Antonio. This is a great school that is solving difficult problems.

My oldest daughter is in first grade and already is above her grade level in reading and math. She absolutely loves to read and learn and talks about going to college because the school nurtures these issues. She loves attending class each day, and they teach intermal control and how to treat everyone with respect and honor. The teachers embrace updated teaching pholosophies and research and have an open door policy. I can call them on their cell anytime. They even visit your home to updaye you on your childs progress. The 5 oclock school day is great for working parents, and the kids utilize their time well. After school care and summer care is free at the moment because of grants. We love it so much we put our youngest in the prek3 program where she has improved her vocabulary and thinking skills dramatically, almost overnight it seems. Plus, we love the diversity at KIPP. My children love school, and show it by their abilities. We cant be any more pleased.

KIPP welcomes all students from all backgrounds. The teachers work 10 hour school days to ensure our kids are successful. My child loves going to school every day and is significantly ahead for her grade level. I attribute her growth and success to the dedicated teachers and staff at KIPP.

Teachers at KIPP are truly dedicated, putting in 10-hour days and continually updating and tweaking curriculum as the students continue to exceed expectations. The testing/assessments being done in class is in preparation for the STAAR tests so that they can be successful. Students are allowed to go beyond their grade expectations, many reading 2-3 grade levels above. I love that they're learning and how they're learning it, their methodology applying to all subject matter. Although academically sound, my 4-star rating is due to minimal exposure to arts, music, and sports. When expanded to included these in the next couple of years, I would not hesitate to give 5 stars. As far as parent involvement, there are many opportunities and all are encouraged to volunteer, however, there are but a handful of parents that organize and participate in events.

About the tests


In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
