My daughter attended this school when she was 3 for their special education program and I have never seen such an outstanding a patient teachers than at Couch. My daughter is now 5 and enrolled in Kindergarten there and the teachers all love what they do and my kid has nothing but the utmost respect for everyone around her. And as far as kids standing around the building they clearly let everyone know that their doors do not open until 7:30. Its listed on their site, in the handbook, etc. Hands down this is the best elementary school in Garland.
Lots of kids at this school are disrespectful and out of order. If you are a parent interested in a good school for your child this is not one of the best. Teacher spend lot of time trying to keep class in order.
My son attends this school and I have had no complaints. The teachers have all been wonderful! They challenged my son and motivated him. As far as the review about staff not supervising children, the school opens their doors at 7:30. This is actually going above and beyond. If they aren't being supervised you probably shouldn't drop them off that early. If we had more parents volunteer and be on PTA, I think this school would be TOP NOTCH!
Im taking my kids to another school next year! This school lacks the programs and creativity that are vital to the children's well-being that I've seen from other schools. No! No! No! to this school.
This school cares about kids. The teachers are hardworking. As for the comment about the kids out front in the morning without an adult...well, the school DOES open its doors half an hour before school starts. I have driven by an hour before school and have seen kids out there waiting. I think parents should be responsible for dropping kids off when the doors open. The school can't be the before-school daycare. I've also seen lots of kids whose parents didn't come on time to pick up at the end of the day. At least a dozen kids are there each day at 3:30, which is 30 minutes after school ends. This staff is caring and going above and beyond to serve their students with love and care.
My son has been at this school since Kindergarten. Various teachers claim that kids are ADD and ADHD, just so they don't have to deal with them. If the kids grades aren't suffering, there is no reason for that kid to be medicated. There is alot of disorganization at this school. Mrs Hill makes alot of excuses for her teachers, counselors, and librarian. Librarian got in my 9 year olds face and screamed at him so that his daycare bus driver heard her all the way out on the bus. I complained, and Mrs Claver was given teacher of the month the following month. Its things like this that are ridiculous. If it wasn't for my son wanting to be at this school with his friends, we would have already moved him to a private school.
I have to put my 2 cents in. I honestly believe this school could use some help, opinions, a true honest to good leader, like me. Haha. Couch has "misplaced" my oldest son 3 times and my youngest once! Better believe if this ever were to happen again, I will be in someone's face! The teachers my children have had are awesome! We all have to remember that not everyone is perfect. Teachers will make mistakes and be late w/paperwork. We as parents have to stay on top of things as well! I have read on all the reviews and it seems to me that children are being disrespectful. Parents need to give out more spankings instead of being lazty and not trying to raise their kids right! It takes a village to raise a child, not just one individual! Ive also noticed there are not adults watching after the children in the morning before school starts, what in the world! Protect our children while we're aren't there, COUCH! Thre are many other things I would love to comment on but i only have 200 more characters to go. LOL. So who's with me on making this school better intstead of seeing a problem and running away!!! - ask Mrs. Brown 2nd grade who her craziest parent was this past year, thats me!
I am a new teacher at Couch. I can say that I've never seen a more dedicated group of educators. The teachers tutor students during school and after hours to ensure that they have every opportunity to achieve success. They truly believe in every student. Every school has problems, but at Couch the staff is committed to doing the right thing for the student. Sometimes the right thing is not the easiest thing. The administrators, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Staley, are professional and caring. They both provide leadership and work very hard to ensure that students have a safe, high quality learning environment.
I must say that my opinion on this school is 100% unbiased. I just moved to the state and know no one to even get an opinion about. I found Mrs. Hill the main prinicipal to be great. I felt that she realy loved the kids and were really there to help service everyone. That's the positive. The negative is Miss. Sarah Staley, the assistant principal. She is a disaster. Miss Hill is quick to defend her but she is too young to be in that position. She lacks experience in dealing with situations. MIss Hill will be quick to point of she is qualified for the position, but qualified doesn't always include being a teacher for a certain amount of time. It includes being able to handle difficult circumstances. You can ask her something and she will just look at you, like she doesn't have to answer you.
I have had students in this school since it opened, and while I understand some of these issues, you arent looking at the whole picture. Every teacher and administrator truly cares about every student in that school. Yes, some students are disrespectful, but I have seen first hand these students counseled on how to better speak to others. I see teachers going above and beyond to be both teachers and parents to some students. I wouldnt have my child anywhere else. The staff is awesome and they really love kids more than anywhere else I have ever been. The principals and office staff are some of the friendliest I have ever met and always make me feel welcome. We sometimes have to remember that its our responsiblity as parents to raise our children, not the schools.
The kids at this school are so disrespectful. It's sad to see such great teachers deal with disrespectful children. We were new to the school but I will be taking my daughter somewhere else.
This school is great teaching great staff the only problem is...When teachers get mad at there students they yell at them without thinking about how it would affect the student and if they wil go home and tell there parents without there parents being concerned.....i love the school but if this happens once more i will have to take action.
My child attends this school and I am disappointed by the lack of control the teachers have. I have seen students fighting and cussing in the hallways and classrooms on numerous occassions. It is happening in all of the upper grades. I am also disappointed by the lack of teacher communication. I have missed several activities because my child's teachers didn't send out any information. I am deeply dissappointed in the parent and teacher participtaion at this school and my child has learned a whole new vocabulary since she started there. Thanks Couch Elementary!
Well My son goes to this school and I have been happy with it. They have taught him great things! The only Bad thing that they have are the Cafeteria ladies! They are so Hateful with the children. I hate seeing them take the food away from them. There is also one that makes smart comments to the children, as if they were adults that knew better! They seriousley need to look into getting coached for treating children! It is an elementary School isn't it???? Well if any parent doubts my opinion try having breakfast with your child once in a while and you will see!
My son has been at this school for two years. He is not challenged by the curriculmn at all. From conversations with other parents and teachers I find that there is a lot of frustration in the school. The pricipal seems disorganized and out of touch with the needs of the school. Every event starts late and is very chaotic.
New school! great location and teaching staff. There has been a recent mold problem, but all is well.
