I've had two children attend Lyles and I can honestly say that the experience is what you make it. There are supportive teachers who keep you in the know with your child. And teachers who don't return emails. Being persistent and present gets results. Every year in the last three has gotten better and better it's a work in progress. I have another year left as a Lyles parent and I know it will be great.

Lyles Middle School is an awesome place to work. The fun and safe culture of the school is created by the Administrators that run the school. I love coming to work everyday and teaching the students at this school. Lyles Middle School has a lot to offer, especially for students that may be struggling to find their nitch in life or a group to hand out with because we have such a diverse school.

Two years ago I would have rated this school with one or two starts. The current leadership has, and continues to change the school culture to one that is focused on the learning of every student. The facilities are clean inside and out. Lyles is as safe place for students to learn. The staff continues to receive high quality training and are learning to work together to ensure students learn at high levels. There is certainly room for improvement, but the staff at Lyles is hard at work and meeting the challenge of change with hard work and dedication. Looking forward to see continued change and growth!

Education that's PERSONABLE and CARING is what we deliver at Lyles Middle School. With a top notch administration team that puts a PREMIUM on EXCELLENCE, our culture has changed for the better since I began my 6 years tenure here. Parents are constantly encouraged to join in actively with our partnership! Our substitutes are considered an educational extension of our academic community here. I think others should know that Lyles Middle School is an exceptional school While working with a very difficult population, the teachers are diligent in ensuring student success. Teachers come in early, leave late, and work on Saturday to provide additional support to students.

Lyles Middle School has really come a long way in the past couple of years! Under the new administration headed by Principal Darrin Hemphill, Lyles is being transformed. The culture is more positive, the administration is more supportive, and the teachers really work together for the success of the students. Although we are hoping for even more parent involvment, progress is being made to get more parents and community members into the school with the "Interactive Parent Days" and "Community Open House." In addition, much more effort is being made to get the students prepared for high school. With the implementation of the AVID program, even mroe students are leaving Lyles being prepared for higher level classes in high school, in turn preparing them for college. Like any other school, there is always work to do. However, we are working really hard to improve on a daily basis!

Lyles is a place where everyone is welcomed. Teachers and administration work hard FOR the students in order to ensure success. Teachers and administration also encourage parent participation in school activities on a weekly basis. Students are geared toward college and careers that will showcase their natural abilities and talents.

School has a disciplinary problem. Students are very disrespectful and unruly. Teachers spend most of the time getting the class in order than teaching. Don't send your child here. Unruly and disrespectful students will influence your child.

My daugter has had a great year at Lyles she is going into the 8th grade and from her 6th grade year she has excelled tremendously going from 1 honors class to all honors. Great and hard working teachers and principal.

My child had a wonderful experience at Lyles. The teachers really worked with us and were happy to answer every email, every question and a couple of them came to extra activites outside of the school to see my child in those activities. Several went above and beyond with communicating with me. Actually getting in touch with me regarding homework, class work and grades. My child was very blessed to have the teachers she had this year. Communication is the key, but it is up to the parent to make it happen. Parents be involved! it was out last year and it was the best!

this is the worst school i have ever been to!the teachers do not care wether or not your learning they dont care about the education!students should enjoy themselves on the last few days of school instead we test!teachers want you to say at the last minute for tutoring knowing you ride the bus and your mom just thinks you gettting into trouble!we your making a mistaking by bringing your child to lyles middle schoool !iw ent there but this is the last da of schoool! i will be leaving!

I don't understand why the students aren't allowed to bring text books home. If they bring only review sheets home, how are the parents suppose to help them with their homework. There should be some improvement there. Another thing is the tutoring sessions. The parent should be notified ahead of time so that we can make provisions for having them picked up. Waiting until the day of tutoring isn't a good idea. It leaves the parent wondering if there really is tutoring or if the student is getting into something else.

I was shocked to see lack of discipline at the school. The shock strarted from the top of the food chain. The principals seemed not to care about education. Only a pay check!

About the tests


In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
