Amount of homework: Too much
June 05, 2015
I am not a fan of homework. I believe that after an 8 hour day, a child should be free to go home and play, explore, rest, or do other activities.

Develops respect: Agree

As a parent of students and substitute, I have experienced a surprising amount of respect from the student body.

Teacher effectiveness: Very effective

I haven't met one teacher here that didn't love their students and the students love them. Gary has the luxury of being selective and have done a wonderful job of choosing a caring, motivated staff.

Develops honesty: Strongly agree

The faculty hold high expectations for the students and provide many opportunities to be a part of the community.

My kids have attended 3 years now. I love the individual attention each student receives and the intimateatmosphere. It has the feel of a private school and I am more than impressed with the high values. The older kids help the younger ones and there are so many polite high school and junior high students. Great things are happening here. There have been many recent updates in the last few years. I am excited to be a part of this district. As for safety concerns, that was addressed last year. All doors are locked with magnetic keys, there is full video surveillance on campus, and the staff is armed to protect the students by any force necessary.

Gary's small size offers more individual student attention and still has ample funds for nice, often new, buildings, equipment and transportation. Granted that the size does limit their athletics program to some degree, but the facilities for softball, tennis and basketball are excellent. The baseball field which features a modern, covered armchair seating area, turf infield, and electronic video scoreboard would be the envy of some small colleges.

i think that in all most teachers try to do their best but there are a few who are condesending. also some do pick their favorite and it seems very unfair sometimes when you could be doing better in class then another student yet your the one who they are always getting on to weather you do something or not. not the kid who is acting up and failing..

To many Aide's teaching the students instead of qualified teachers, students out of class way to much, school safety needs major improvement.

Very dissatified with the academic program, very limited electives. Some teachers are very rude to students. All sports except football and softball. Safety and discipline needs improvement.

I think the school's academic procedure is a good one for my daughter. They are willing to help each child who are having problems in a subject that may be confusing them, and give each child individual attention without making them feel separated from the class.

An excellent school. Music and all sport available except football. Parent involvement is outstanding.

Not satisfied with the Academic Program for the average student. No music or art available in this school. Not enough variety of sports. It's either Basketball or Baseball and not much else.

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
