I wanted to praise HIllsboro Elem School. They have done a great job in turing my child around. We came into the Kindergarden year 1/2 way through and you would never know it. The teacher did not miss a beat by adding another student and my child soared! My child was praised to success in many areas and disciplined when needed. I think that they are doing as good a job as any other school system in the area.
After many years of living in the U.S. and Europe, I can honestly say this is the worst school that my child has ever attended. The staff are unwelcoming, unhelpful and have a tight knit 'clique' that is downright unfriendly. The teaching is hit and miss, there are one or two excellent teachers, but many are small town idiots who are only there because their grandpappies founded Hillsboro and have the attitude that 'who needs to know anything, Hillsboro is the best so there'. I am from England originally, and have qualifications from Cambridge University, but was told by one teacher that I should complete a parenting class! This school is failing in many important areas, but luckily not all the schools in this district are (the Junior High is now being turned around by an excellent new principle). However, I have removed my child for home schooling until we move.
I would not send my child to this school if I had another choice. The discipline at this school is non-existent. My child received more discipline from his teacher than he ever did from the principal. The principals are more concerned whether or not the students have their shoes tied and their shirt tails tucked in than they are if the students are not behaving in the classroom. There are many good teachers there but they are all being run off by the principal. The third grade teachers seem to have their things together but unfortunately third grade is moving to the intermediate. Overall, if you have a choice, choose a better school for first and second grade!
I think Hillsboro Elem. School is a great school. My son has ADHD and thay helped him as much as possible. They did not sit him off to the side and not care about him they talked to him and I and helped me as much as they could.they also gave me a daily report on how well he was doing and alway told him how proud they were of him he now gets good grades and is so much happier. A Happy Parent
