Great school, great teachers. I loved going to this school! It prepared me well for high school

As a new parent I attended the orientation and was disappointed the pricipal told parents the student/teacher ratio was 14/1. That must only so in pre-k & Kinder that have about 27 kids and a teacher & teacher assistant. All other classes do not have that ratio. She said there were 242 students do the Math yourself! If you receive financial aid or free tuition, why not? If you pay full tuition, I do not recommend because you are considered "fancy"!

When comparing public to private education, this environment has proven to create strong individual students, with compasion, strong religous conviction, solid relationships with teachers. Some teachers are have been there for years, and some are new, a good balance. The PTO program is only as strong as the parents make it. Working to bring academic and extra curricular events to the table instead of complaining. From experience compared to other private schools, my child doesn't have to worry about being in the best vehicle, or living in the biggest house, or one parent makes millions more than the other. It is about the well being of the child.

Not a great school after all-had to move my students to another school. Classrooms are over crowded, the gym/cafeteria needs to be cleaned and renovated, the art and music program time has been reduced. I recommened that anyone interested in this school take time and compare it to other schools. They may cost a little more but they offer a better education, more programs, cleaner and safer facilities and enjoy parents taking part in school activities and not only use them for fundraising

Off to a bad start - overcrowded classroom. Our local public school has a policy that each class can have no more than 20/1 ratio. I wish I would have been told before making the investment of uniforms/registration fees etc..

As a long time parent of OLG I can say that my kids have always thrived in their studies. If my kids were not happy there I would take them out. I have been on both sides of the coin and my kid that did go to public school always had 30to 40 students in her class, teachers that were elated when she received D's and C's and theft like no other. The teachers are superior and care about their students.

My daughter just started the school year for 2010 at OLG and there are 27 students in her class. Same thing last year! The principal promised a smaller class this year but again she lied! It's too late to enroll my daughter in another school but other than religion class what am I paying tuition for?? I used to be so proud of OLG but never again will I recommend this school to anyone. There is not enough room to list all the complaints. I don't blame most teachers who have been there a long time. They can only do so much with a class that big and especially when not getting any support from the principal or the preist.

Looking forward to another great year at OLG. I see and smell lots of "new" at the school. Very positive atmosphere gets us excited for new year. Our kids love OLG. I would have never thought they would actually enjoy going to school. OLG has been a wonderful learning experience for the entire family and we look forward to another great year.

As a long time parent of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 15 years, It's sad to see the school attacked with negative reviews. I've had 2 daughters graduate from OLG, they went on to graduate from Incarnate Word Academy , one from college, the second will be a sophomore year this fall. I've seen the school grow leads and bounds, that's not to say all has been perfect. But then what school is? OLG has provided a safe learning environment as opposed to what kids face these days in large public schools. Drugs, gangs, weapons, bullying, etc. Parents are complaining of overcrowded classes, many of those kids came from Holy Name & Mt. Carmel, schools the Diocese closed. OLG was gracious enough to take on children left without a catholic education. Hence the crowding and issues. Complaints should go to the Diocese, not the Admin. for better funding of desired programs.

Disappointing would be the first word that comes to mind when I think of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The current administration has stunted the growth, mishandled the faculty and all but locked the parents out of OUR school. A school that once had a stellar reputation is in complete shambles. Shame on the Principal and Parish Priest. You two are single handedly ruining a catholic desperately needed on the the east side of Houston.

My children have been at this school for 5 years and we all had been please until the last 2 yrs under current leadership. Under current leadership the school reputation and level of academics is being destroyed. The teacher turnover, parent/student dissatisfaction is at it height. There is NO PTA, Spelling bees, Science Fair participation, no accountability of funds and absolutly no communication, graduating students having to take summer school. The school has always had a great reputation for academics and has tremendous anount of potential to be what it once was, but will not happen until the current leadership is removed.

It's really heartbreaking to see such a wonderful school turn into a not so wonderful one. There are many parents that have been there for years that will not be returing next year. I believe the leadership at the school is lacking and creating a bad environment for both the teachers and the students. I would definitely not recommend this school to anyone. There were 27 students in the Pre-K class this year!! Way too many for one teacher to handle. Rumors of less ancillary classes for students in the 2010-2011 year are spreading. I would make sure to check this out before enrolling. PS The lack of parent envolvement is due to the rules from the principal.

My daughter is finishing Pre-K here this year. There are 25 children in her class with one full time teacher. Needless to say, we have had quite a few incidents when I felt like my daughter's best interest was being sacrified. I have been very vocal about my issues with the school. I also received little to no communication from the administration. Would not recommend this school unless there is a major overhaul.

Our Son attended 6th grade at this school not only did he recive F's throughout the year but we recived little to no communication from the Teachers & Principal Mr. Brogee. My Family has grown up in this scholl but we were very dissappointed this year. We do not suggest this school. We have 2 other children that attend Lantrip elementary a public school & we got much more attention at that school for FREE!
