My son attended Horne from K thru 5th. The teachers and administrators at Horne are exceptional. Although it was a challenge and often difficult, with the commitment from teachers in each grade level, my son finished 5th grade performing on-level in all subjects. My daughter just finished 2nd grade reading at a 4th grade level. Horne offers extra help to the kids that need it and encourages their high achievers to soar. Way to get it right HORNE!

I believe that after the school changed the principal, the school has had a good improvement and the actual group of PTO are doing a better job than the previously groups. The teachers my son has had were very good. So I love the school and I beleive it is a good place to my son to have a good education.

We have been very happy with Horne with the exception of discipline. We are very happy with the school otherwise. It is a very diverse student body which I view as a positive thing. There is lots of parent involvement, and teachers are good at communicating with the parents.

My child has attend Horne for 3 years and it has been an incredible experience. He has shown great improvement in his vocabulary and interaction skills. This is a great school. I would recommend it to all parents.

My daughter is a second year student at Horne and it has been a tremendous experience for me and my child. There is a lot of parental involvement in the activities. The academic programs are excellent. My daughter has something positvie to say everyday when she gets home. Go Horne.

My ten year old will graduate from Horne this year. He has attended Horne since kindergarden. His experience has been great. I have nothing negative to say about Horne. Thank-you to everyone at Horne for helping my son get off to such a great start!

2006/2007 seems to off to a good start! A change in leadership (new principal) and fresh new ideas seem to be the trend for this upcoming year. I look forward to it.

This was our first year a Horne and I would have to say it wasn't as bad as I heard. I think it's what you the parent puts into the school! I was involved and very active at the school and had no problems. Can't wait for next year!

Seems to be an overemphasis on test teaching and test results. Very little amount of free-play or free-talk time which I think makes it harder for kids to release their pent-up energy. We hardly ever see any art-work come through the house and teachers seem unable or unwilling to do anything other than send home notes about child's behavior. Not happy with this school.

They seem pretty good. But honestly, I am not really sure. My child may have special learning needs that aren't being addressed.

I found this school to be everything but quality. There was no parent involvement, I was the only parent signed up to help with the school party and was thrust into being head room mother and was informed if I didn't do it, unfortunately the kids wouldn't have much of a party. The teachers were very apathetic, very uninvolved.I spent countless times trying to build a rapport with teachers but to no avail. No one seems to care at this school about the kids nor the parents who try to offer support. My child suffered under such poor teaching from inexperienced teachers who had no passion or concern for the students. I could say more but I will be out of words. This school really needs some intervention!!!

Horne typifies the public system today. They 'teach to the test' (TEKS, TAS, etc). As another poster stated, the students are merely statistics as it relates to these tests. They are indeed quick to punish for the tiniest infraction. Punishments vary, and even include withholding learning tools. Certainly not a school I want my children to attend. We're moving out of the district entirely...

My child is currently a student in this school and I am intentionally moving to get her out. Teachers seem to treat the children like cattle, providing no individual attention or recognition, but are quick to scold and punish any infractions. Beware! If you can avoid this school, please do!

My son enjoys his kindergarden teacher. She is very caring. He started slow but his teacher never gave up on him. During the final 6 weeks, both he and his class are learning from 1st grade material.

I have a new student at Horne and I feel extremely comfortable! The administration worked with us during a very difficult move and the teachers have gone out of their way to make sure that my son feels welcome in his new class.

Parents and teachers work together for the success of every student. I had many opportunities to participate, and my input was valued. My children love going to Horne each day!

Well my daughter started kindergarten 2002-2003 school year and she was excited. Now she is in the 1st grade and so far the school seems to be great. The only thing I was very very disappointed about was that there was no kindergarten graduation. I was so upset both my daughter and I were looking forward to that day but it never arrived.

My fourth grader does not know how to write in cursive - something I was told they would (and should) learn in the third grade. There are very few children that learned this skill in school last year. Teacher turnover seems to be high.

They seem to have a large turnover, my daughter's grades suffered for two reasons: she had 5 teachers for 2002-03 school year and there were only 4 girls in her classroom, it was a jungle. No one listens to you either, asked to have her moved several times. They gloss it over of course.
