Last year was my daughter's first year at YWCPA. I was very impressed. The great majority of the teachers were invested on my child's success. They offered tutorials after school and on Saturdays. I had problems figuring out the various after school opportunities, coming from the private school sector, but we are ready this year. Communication was an issue initially, however, out was resolved wuickly and efficiently. The only real negative I have is the office staff could be more helpful and enthusiastic about their interaction with parents and students. I. E. I had to visit the office on an occasion and stood at the desk for 12 minutes while one clerk finished her personal conversation and another clerk merely looked at me...never offering to assist or help. The school could use office staff that "appear" th want to be there. Overall, this is a really good school.
This school was terrible. The teachers were disrespectful. There have been many fights in the restrooms, girls smoke there also. This was probably the worse school I have been in. I'm grateful my parents aren't forcing me to spend another year here. The staff has favoritism towards specific students. I regret showing my parents the brochure. Worst decision ever.
It is about to be the third year that I have attended this school and overall it's not that bad. Many people expect schools to be perfect but in reality nothing is perfect because if it was there would be nothing to learn... The challenges the school faces will help the girls in the future. They say the teachers are horrible but really they just don't like the subject. Many of the reviews below are from middle school students who think they hate Young Women's, when really they hate school in general... They think it would be better to go to a school that is co-ed or focused on sports. When really they are at one of the best schools in Houston... When the girls stop being a negative Nancy and start being a positive Polly then the school really will be AMAZING!!!! So yeah the school just started 4 years ago, and it was put in the oldest building some of us girls have ever seen. But this school is amazing and any girl who got in is one of the luckiest girls in the world... Also if your daughter is going to be starting in Middle School they should know that there will always be a girl to help them.... -Sincerely a 8th Grader of the 2014-2015 school year...
This school is absolutely terrible. I left my last school because I was being bullied by another student , this time I'm leaving this school because I was bullied by several peers. It's amazing that people who are supposed to mold the minds of the future are corrupting them. More than once I was targeted because of my personality, I'm outspoken yet respectful and I refuse to be talked to with a lack of respect. On several occasions I told my mom and she spoke with my teachers and nothing was done. Not only was I treated rudely my grades were compromised due to their hatred towards me. It was embarrassing because I was late to school on a daily basis because my moms a nurse and has to drive my younger brother to school in Galveston daily then return and bring me to school. They couldn't understand and constantly gave me lunch detention because of it. The office workers are rude and unorganized and my information was lost as well as my enrollment packet. there was an Instagram issue that concerned my friends and nothing was done about it. A charade is played everyday to block out the truth but this school is absolutely terrible please don't send your daughter here!
This school makes SEVERAL promises to the students and parents but have yet to fulfill them. If you like teachers losing your work, teachers with HORRIBLE attitude teachers being messy about other students business which is so unprofessional teachers and administration lack of communication about events etc and teachers who are not even certified to teach and could not teach even if they tried then this is the school for you When I was accepted, i was made to sign a contract stating they i had to complete two years in this school. The two years that i stayed were HORRIBLE. I came from a private school and they were more organized than YWCPA. The teachers are lazy, messy, and have lack of professionalism. They stoop to the teenagers level. I have credits from college courses i have already taken and they have yet to place them on my transcript so i am taking classes i don't need. This school has screwed up my future and my chance of getting accepted into another school. They basically kept me for my GREAT STATS. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME MONEY OR FUTURE WITH THIS HORRIBLE SCHOOL OF Fabrications
YWCPA is a great school if you are willing to put the work in to achieve your educational goals. The staff there really pushes you to do your absolute best. There are rules just like any other school you will be held to the standard of the hand book so make sure you read it before you the agreement. If you are like me and not so hot on the all girls thing trust me you will get over it, there are plenty of opportunities to socialize with the opposite gender.
YWCPA is a terrible school. The students are very rude and inconsiderate of other people. The staff is no better. They show no personal interest toward you or the things you care about. The biology teacher is by far, hands down , the most mean spirited person I have ever encountered. She does not take into consideration that we as students are people, with very different lives. Some of which are harder than others. She shows no compassion towards you or your situation, be it a loss of money, or even loss of a loved one. I will MOST DEFINITELY be leaving this school. Please, do not waste your time here.
This is a very good school it offers a lot of opportunities for the girls. I recommend it. Even though the uniforms may be to expensive, you wont regret it. Your daughter might hate it at first but after a while she will start liking it. If your daughter doesn't do her work or is that type of girl who is like a rebel don't waste your time she wont fit in their. They offer very good teaching in all the subjects especially in Math. They have AP classes for social studies. They may not offer as many curricular activities but if we make this school go higher soon our daughters or future students will have many things to do. I wish the best to this wonderful school. If i told you I wasn't the parent who made their daughter go to this school my daughter choose to go their, I was actually surprise because most of us know that many girls would not like to got to an only girls school.
Ywcpa is the worse experience i have ever experienced in my life . when i first looked into ywcpa i thought nothing but the best of this school . but overtime things began to get worse and worse ! The principal doesnt take time out with the students here and she doesnt treat us like actual kids . im so stressed out at this school because they reqiure so much with no motivation . worse built sisterhood i have ever experienced!
I am a high school student and I attended YWCPA my tenth grade year. I was really nervous about starting there and as soon as I walked through the doors, the feeling only increased. There was nothing welcoming about the depressing colors or the rushed and easily irriateded staff. I spent most of my sophomore year there and felt like it was more of a summer camp or holding place for girls. The only reason I liked the school was because I became really good friends with about 3 other girls. There was so much drama with the Middle schoolers and even the immature girls in my year. They say they are forming leaders for tomorrow but it was more of just a holding spot for girls. The school was not ready for high school students and without a doubt high school students felt like the black sheep of the family. I left for the last 6 weeks of the year and went to my home school. I realized how far behind I was and that I was taking classes I didn't need. YWCPA was by far the worst school I attended.
Terrible. Ghetto student wannabes. Students talk a lot of trash. Fighting, cursing, bullying. Don't let the uniforms fool you. It is the worst school my daughter has ever attended.
I am an eighth grader that attended YWCPA from sixth grade to seventh grade and honestly it was just terrible . The students are extremely rude and I was bullied in seventh grade . I told the principal and they didn't do anything about it. The school is very unorganized and the principal is by far the worst principal I've had throughout my life. The teachers are organized at times but most of the time unorganized. Students always get into fights and there is always drama. The teachers teach very well though but I wouldn't recommend this to anybody . YWCPA is by far the worst school I have ever attended.
My daughter has been going there sense the 6th grade and is now in the 8th grade, this will be her last year. The teachers are very unorganized and so is the principle. They have lost my child's work multiple times and I know they have because I have handed it to them myself and the next they they have lost it. This is not a good school and the only reason my daughter stayed is because when you first get here they make you sign a contract saying that you have to stay till high school.
We are super excited about the full academic experience our daughter is being offered at YWCPA. As parents who invested in private school education for several years and even gave charter school a try, it was refreshing to find a school that finally delivered on all they promoted to offer their students. We desperately wanted an academic environment that was challenging yet balanced and we found that at YWCPA. Although the academic work load was truly college preparatory and proved to be extremely challenging in the beginning, our daughter, she learned what she was made of and rose to the challenge with the support of her classmates who she now calls her sisters and the amazing and committed teachers and administrators who kept her encouraged. Today she is feeling accomplished, understanding the road to accomplishing all her goals may not be easy, but the preparation and opportunity she is provided makes the journey worth while. We are thankful she has embraced this opportunity and we are confident that she will be well prepared to pursue whatever career path she chooses.
My school is just extraordinary!! I mean everyday I get on the bus and think, 'I wonder what will happen today?' Everyday at the YWCPA, is an adventure, I have my friends, awesome teachers, and wonderful staff members looking out for me. However, the best, is my principal, Ms. Thomas. She dedicates herself to making the best for us. If it weren't for her, our school would be nothing. Although, one thing I can say, is that I love my school.
It's a nice school. I guess i like it has a calm learning environment and the fine arts station is nice. I think something that would make the school better is if you improve the bathrooms.
My school Is HORRIBLE, and on the worst school i have ever attended I'm being honest like for real
The school is alright. Coming from a student, the uniforms are a bit too pricy...some parents can't afford to spend at LEAST 250$ for something that us girls will wear for about a year or two tops. There are also some snobby girls...and bullying is a BIG problem. Some people just start hating on you for no reason! And there is WAAAY too much homework. I understand that this is a college prep. school, but they could give us a little less homework! Also, we get in trouble for things that we can't control. Today at lunch, we were held back because we weren't in a line. There are too many rules! I was about to get suspended for wearing an undershirt! IN THE FALL! The only good thing about this school are the laptops. That's all I have to say, and this is coming from an anonymous 7th grader. Hope you liked my review! P.s. This year is WORSE than last year.
This school is amazing but people criticize it for no reason. First of all the building will need to be renovated of course because it was made in 1925 that's a school that's 88 years old. Yes the uniforms are pricey but If they are too expensive you CAN contact the main office who will give you a scholarship for uniforms.. As for bullying the problem if bullying is almost nonexistent bullying happens once in a blue moon. Once it happens it can be reported to the principal, the dean, or even a teacher all of which are in the hallway during passing periods. Our school even has a counselor your daughter can talk too. I'm hurt people would write such things about a school they seem to know nothing about. Our school has given us so many weeks where free dress is allowed. If you want something done in our school like a fundraiser or a dance just by talking to the teacher you can get it done. I've done so much to get our school's name out. Don't think badly about the girls in our school. There is no such thing as "the hood" or "third ward" we are not ghetto but a sisterhood of excellence and if you opened the doors of our old school you would see that.
I love going to YWCPA this is my third year going here and its so amazing how in little time i got to learn many things and experience being with nothing but girls. Are principal is very nice and always has a apositive attitude towards all the ladies.shes always ask if we need somwthing and how are we doing. All the teachers there are nice as well they always have postive comments towards the kids all they want for us is the best. As well as i get to talk to all the girls without disrepect it is an awesome school. So choose the best for your child send them to YWCPA to become roses like everybody else. We have sports that they may enjoy doing.YWCPA is all about respect so come on and apply. By applying will inpact the rest of ur life so do it know.
