well I would not recomend this school to anyone. Think first before enrolling your children here. parents are not allowed in during lunch. They had ny brother picking up green peas from the floor while they were not his. The lunch ladies do not serve hot lunch only leftovers. To many students in each class. Teachers have so many students they cant help them and there are no tutorials. Dismissal is chaos for there are no people to direct traffic and cars make multiple lines not leaving space for opposite lane to pass by. some office staff is rude to the max. Children are yelled at. Lunch time is only watchec by one person for so many students. this school is very poorly organized and has gone down year by year.
I attended Garden Villas until 2002, and I would never go anywhere else if I had it to do over again. There are less and less schools that truly care for the students and parents that rely on them- Garden Villas stands above the rest. The music, cheerleading, and dancing programs are excellent, the field trips are great, and the students learn everything they need to become better people in addition to better scholars. I would not be as successful as I am today were it not for this amazing, diverse, loving school.
I have worked at GV for 17 years. I have my dream job! We have a beautiful neighborhood, renovated school, new principal and dedicated parents. I sure hope our rating improves, we sure are headed in the right direction!
I am 33 and this was my elementary school. I'm sure it has changed, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. I can't remember my violin teacher's name, but he was AWESOME. My 3rd grade teacher completely ruined my love for school, though. I can't remember if it was Mrs. Beaty or Mrs. Hobdy, whichever was teaching 3rd in 1987, but I had straight As until the final grading period of the year. My mom asked to review the work, it showed that I had a high 90 average, but she gave me an 89. She told my mother, with me sitting there, that white kids needed to learn that they couldn't always be the best at everything and it was too late to change it. I hope that woman didn't teach much longer.
Love this school!! This is my daughter's first year in elementary school. The Pre-K teachers are wonderful!! My daughter immediately fell in love with Ms. Lawler and the other staff there. The magnet teacher are also great! Ms Winn does a great job with the school programs! Because of this school, my daughter has been involved with the Houston Grand Opera as well as nearly all of the programs at this school! We are thankful for the instructors and administration for doing an awesome job!
Great school with very patient teachers to help my child excel in all that he do.
My daughters attend Garden Villas and I am pleased with the competency of the staff. We have had a positive experience here.
This is the best music magnet school in Houston! G.V. has the same band teacher since I was a student there 30 years ago. My three boys have gone there and are great musicians today. The band students are better performers than regular high school bands, if you don't believe me come and hear them. I love and appreciate Mrs. Terry-Autry, she has not changed a bit in these 30 years. I also appreciate the rest of the staff for their hard work.
Our family is very happy with the staff and teaching at Garden Villas. My daughter is in kindergarten and we hope to enroll our youngest daughter in pre-kindergarten next year. It is a great school with good parent participation and located in a nice family oriented neighbor. It's great!
Our children attended this great school for only one year. One in 2nd grade the other in pre-k. The principal Ms. Terry Autry is second to none in the care and attention to detail that she demonstrates as the leader of this school. As once having been a teacher there, this is her pride and joy. She is friendly and caring and very approachable. Anytime that we had a concern she was right on top of it and took care of to make it better. The teachers are very involved with the student body and take extra security measures before and after school. Unfortuneately we no longer will live in Texas and we are going to miss Garden Villas very much. Thanks to all the staff and to Ms. Ledet the wonderful school counselor for an awesome year.
I thought the school would have smaller classes but it doesn't. The music program is excellent.
