This is one of the very best magnet schools in HISD. Other elementary schools are now emulating themselves after this outstanding Heights school.
We are very pleased with the school. Great parent involment, the staff is excellent and its on the 2 year towards the IB programm. We know that to have a great school not only depends on the principal and teachers but on us the parents as well. Harvard is the place to be !
Harvard is an already very well-rounded school that is now working towards IB standards that prepares kids for the world we live in today.
Great School my girls vocabulary, knowledge, and skills is advanced compare to other kids. Friendly community and staff members. Highly recommend Harvard Elem.
Harvard is a great school. But I am very involved in the school... if you expect your child's school to be great, you need to commit to making that happen. Harvard has a College Bound Culture program, a strong math, science and technology program... the library is fantastic and the teachers are very concerned and caring. The PTA works very hard to fulfill the needs of the students and faculty as well as the needs/concerns of the parents. The Principal has done a great job of creating and communicating a vision for the school. In 2008 the school was rated 'exemplary' and a named a Blue Ribbon school. Harvard is now working on its IB affiliation. It's the dedication of the staff AND the parents that make Harvard a great learning environment for its students.
Love Mr. Beringer the school principal. Love the school, and everything he has done to it!
My daughter has been at Harvard for four years now and will definitely finish out her next two. The school has had many changes throughout the years, but has always maintained its excellent academic structure. The parent involvement is great, but I wish there was a little more support for the arts (music, art, theatre, etc.)
This school has it all! The principal has great vision and leadership qualities, he and the staff are excellent and always have time to answer your questions and concerns, the teachers are high-quality and care about the students' success, the math, science, technology, and art teachers are particularly impressive, the students are motivated, and parent involvement is phenomenal. Bottom line: everyone knows each other here and it shows. Harvard feels almost like family, a true 'small school' community. I feel like my daughter is attending a private school! The only area they lack is in music. The teacher and facilities are just not that great, however they'll be getting a new music teacher next year so I expect that program to improve.
My daughter has attended Harvard for 5 years, she has done very well. The teachers have all showed true concern in the students ability to learn and progress. The principal is strict and does an out standing job with this inter city school and its students. I have always recieved good feed back from all the teachers she has been with.
This is the first year my children have attended this school and compared to a lot of elementary schools in HISD, I found this one to be challenging and a safe place for my children. I speak with their teachers often and they seem concerned and exhibit a caring attitude. As far as expectations, well I love the idea that they do challenge the students to reach for a higher level of understanding. My children come from exemplary schools and I expected the same level of education. I would recommend this school to anyone.
My children attended this school for one year. It was horrible, the expectations are well above grade level and often out of the normal child's reach. The principal is very much into discipline, the children are not allowed to move, talk or interact in any way shape or form. I do however give her credit on getting test scores up. The teachers at this school appear very unhappy and disatisfied with their position. The principal is very much a dictator on what and how they teach. While my children attended this school and I had concerns, I attempted to contact her on many occasions and she would never respond. There are a few choices of schools in this area. Be safe send your child elsewhere and let them have a happy productive edducation.
