This school is awesome, if you're a good student than you won't get into trouble. My teachers have been the best and to me this school has helped alot of students including me. I don't regret choosing SMS over Pin Oak. Sharpstown Middle, home of the Vikings, deserves alot more than 5 stars and coming from me, it's saying something. I'm going to surely miss this school and I'm planning on coming back soon. I trully recomend this school for students who trully want to succeed in life, and that don't cause trouble. - S.H (8th gd. of 08-09)

Having had my son in this school for three years on the magnet program, I have to say I am disappointed. The leadership and program are not as good as they could be. There is plenty of room for improvement in all areas.

About the tests


In 2012-2013, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) was used to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8; in writing in grades 4 and 7; in science in grades 5 and 8; in social studies in grade 8; and end-of-course assessments for English I, II, and II, Algebra I and II, biology and US History. STAAR is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

The different student groups are identified by the Texas Education Agency; if there are a small number of students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.

About the tests
