My child is currently at The Rice School. I have been seriously disappointed with the school and this is my childs first year (shes in kinder)! Well to start off this school has all the ingredients to be great, yet they do not have the proper people in place to execute it properly. My child is not learning spanish, its such a joke that the other teachers have even admitted it! My child is in class with children that have serious disciplinary problems! Her hair has been cut and she has been completely terrorized! The administration does not handle anything professionally or effieciently! The school lacks the ability to challenge the students and they have completely lied about the g/t program! Its sad that hisd is in debt and yet this school doesnt get it! There technology magnet status is even being taken away from their inability to meet expectations!
My child has attended the Rice School since kindergarten. This is the last year we will be at Rice and I am sad. This school is wonderful and so is their staff. They start students out with a second language and technology. Two things kids will need for a successful future.
My child recently completed both his elementary and middle school years with The Rice School (K-8). I found the academic and behavioral expectations very appropriate. It appears the students are very able to compete for the best high schools.
I am a parent of a student who is not returning to the Rice School. I agree totally with the first two reviews. They expressed what I wanted to say exactly but there is not enought room for what else I have to say about this school. My child is a gifted and talented student but they could not keep her interested, let children bully and tease her about her weight and the teachers and administrators are of the lowest. They help to lower her and other kids self esteem more than the teasing students. Their 0 tolerance is ridiculous. If you are called to the office 3 times you have a chance of not being able to return. The 5th grade assistant principle said even if a student is called to the office for investigation of an incident it will still count against them. Even though they weren't involved.
My daughter started off at this school in Kindergarten, now she is in the Second grade. The first two years was ok. Now that she is in the Second Grade I have had so many problems, the first thing is that she has been recognized as Gifted and Talented this program has done nothing. She's bored which leads up to talking, playing etc. There was an incident at her school where she was wrongly accused, I was very upset of the outcome and now I have taken this to a higher level. I feel that the Extended Day Program is over priced. Also, what they offer to these students is not educational enough for me. I am very disappointed with this school and she will not be back for the Third Grade.
I am not at all satisfied with the Rice School. In fact, I am extremely frustrated with the teachers and administrators who continue to support each other, even when they are wrong. It leaves you wondering whose best interest do they have at heart the child's or the staff. They do not give their students an edge, academically. They have a great program design, but unfortunately the teachers and administrators currently employed at this school do not possess the competency to execute such a program. They have very basic extracurricular activities. They do offer Spanish classes, but do not expect fluency in the language. The PTO is extremely involved. I would not recommend this school if you have pretty bright child that needs to be challenged. Gifted and Talented student needs are ignored in the class. Disciplining is on the rise and student self esteem is declining thanks to the staff.
