The bigest issue of this school is students misbehavior and bullying. Most of the students disrespect teachers in terms of disobedience and rudeness. However, the school administration is unable to manage students bihavior issues to promote safe and effective teaching and learning. Some students remain in iss during the all school year while teachers spend more class time dealing with students misbehavior rather than to teach students.
I am an 8th grade Wunderlich student, and this school has MAJOR problems. They will give you a detention for having your shirt untucked- once. Some of my teachers don't even really care about what we're learning or the fact that I had a panic attack in class and she said to "get over it, it's not a big deal." The assistant principals encourage you to tell them about your issues, but then they'll do absolutely nothing about it, and put you in the wrong. Misogyny, depression, and bullying are the biggest issues in our school. Academics? We're a laughingstock! Not to mention also that the school places the athletics over everything else, since they never want for money like the Fine Arts groups. If you can afford or manage to send your child somewhere else, DO SO, unless you want your child to have silent lunch every week, no time to be a kid, and the overall sense of failure that this school implants into the minds of the students. This school will make you feel worthless. So please, please, don't send your kids here.
I can guarantee the parents who complain about their child being reprimanded for "insignificant things", that if your child is in and out of ISS on a regular basis - we at the school need more support in correcting their actions. The students at this school are wonderful (most of them), the staff works hard (most of them) and the parents are very supportive (most of them). I only wish that we could provide more time, more money and more resources to the betterment of these children.
I think the teachers are awesome but the administrators are way to strict. My son gets ISS almost every other week from stuff like talking too much or picking up a marker off the floor. He got ISS for using an unauthorized restroom?! Isnt he missing valuable lessons by sitting in ISS all day? I can understand if he is doing something to harm him or someone else but how strict is too strict? We cant wait for school to be over and move on to high school!
As a parent we need to reflect on ourselves. As parents we need to understand that school is a place for education and learning. Teachers and administrators rely heavily on parents to do our parts and teach the basics to our children which is RESPECT for the individual. Our children are a reflection of us the parents. We only get what we put in as parents therefore it does not matter what school your child goes to or learns from. It is what we as parents learn to expect what we accept from our children. Yes, the school is strict but fair. But in the real world we have laws, rules, policies and procedures that we must follow as adults. So why do we expect any different from our children. What message are we sending our children? Wunderlich needs more parent involvement then you can truly see the value in what any school has to offer. Our children are there to learn and if your child can not do so then maybe it time for you to find a school that is suitable for your child and what you will accept from what you expect from your child.
I think this school is a great school it's good at sports especially in TRACK! 8th grade girls are beastenn. We won district last year yeahhh!!! The school is good, they help us a lot.. Teachers are nice well some of themm..
First of all, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But if you really want to know what Wunderlich or any school is like .. you need to spend some time there. Yes, the administration is tough... as a parent... I love it. How are my kids doing? Both (7th and 8th grade this year) have had great experiences at this school. The academics are just as tough as any school in the district, they can do sports or lots of extracurricular clubs etc. Ironically, we are pretty much a minority at this school as it has a small Anglo population ... and many of our friends or neighbors get extremely nervous about the school but once their kids attend the school ... have a real change of heart. I like that they don't put up with 'helicopter' parents and have a zero-tolerence for BS.
The school hands out suspensions for just about anything. The faculty is very strict which I believe makes it touch to feel as if you're really at school. I'm glad I don't have to spend any more years at the school as the the school is more worried about scores than the students.
I can't even offer a rating for this school, that's how bad I think it is. I've read all of the postings here and I've had the same issues with my boys that other parents have experienced. The only solution these teachers and principals seem to have is to give suspension, whether in school or out side of school, and while it may make the school officials look good on paper (for taking care of the problem child), that punishment remains on the child's record throughout all of their school days until graduation. That's going over board. Suspension used to be given for truancy, smoking and/or drinking and drugs, but now it's given left and right for stupid things such as talking in class. NO I'M NOT KIDDING! It's time to remove your kids from this school and home school them so they receive the education you expect them to receive.
I used to be a student at this is school. Wunderlich had a good everything but my favorite part was P.E. with my coaches Coach Jonshon, Coach Gabriel, and Coach Pelk
The students get silent lunch, meaning they can't talk, laugh, or whistle all lunch period. Math TAKS scores are also low.
Speaking from a parent point of view, I feel like the head administrator at this school is more concern with being in control than what is in the best interest of the students at this school. I did not feel welcome at the school. The morale of the faculty and students is low. Something need to change.
I am speaking as a Wunderlich student, and I would like to say that I do not like this school. The cafeteria is always crowded during lunch, the standardized dress is a little too strict, and I think the school cares more about being a recognized school than the students. So, next year I will be looking forward to going to a new school.
I say that Wunderlich is tryng to get the students to get good grades because they had the TAKS tutorial sessions for extra preperation for the TAKS test, and they have Homework Help. The extracurricular activities is good their too. They have athletic teams, and others too. They also try to get the parents involve also. They have letters sent out for events, PTA, and everything.
Hmmm I think the school is ok. Very productive. And the ethnicity is balanced
I speak as a former student. No Wunderlich is not the richest school in our district but it does have very competative extracurricular organizations including one of the best music departments in the district. There are a few teachers that are, share we say, not exactly loved by the student body but, overall, has supportive staff, both academically and with concern to discipline. The student body has a diverse mix of ethnic backgrounds exposing the students to many cultures hands on through friendship. Overall I believe attending this intermediate school help shape who I am today. A former student
Well, my youngest son will be entering this year as a sixth grader and I am trying to be positive. My two older sons attended Wunderlich and the gym locker room could be and was at times a negative and sometimes dangerous place. The coaches know who will be the real 'trouble' kids. I say 'give more power to the coaches.' They have a much better way of taking care of these situations. They know more about these kids than the Administration even wants to know. The coaches truly care. I know first hand. The principles only escalate the bad situations because they do not want to take the time out to deal with these situations in a constructive manner. It's too much effort. They only suspend them and send them to alternative school. That doesn't help a child nor does it look good on the school.
