Being a parent who children happen to be the minority at the school I am very displeased. The staff is not diverse as well as the office staff. They are not fond of programs or fieldtrips that expose children to all cultures. I do take it upon myself to do so. The school offers NO afterschool activities or tutoring. The school only true concern I see is the TAKS test. Educational computer time is becoming extinct. In my opinion this school does not allow room for individuality and want all kids, at all times be TIN soldiers. Lunch is silent 90% of the time. The principal is not easily approachable and will refer you to the counselor who will just refer you to the "students' handbook". My children and I are very unhappy with this school.I am surprised at those who gave them 5 stars. Wow!

My 3 children and I love Atkinson! We are very happy with the school and its staff! I love the fact that the school focus's more on Academics than field trips and games. They are wonderful at coming up with fun activities as rewards for the kids and I applaud that! Compared to other schools that have a field trip every other day you can see that the teachers and staff care for each and everyone of those kids! I would highly recommend Atkinson to everyone! I think the school is great. The teachers are wonderful. My daughter is now in 2nd grade and has never had a problem there. The staff and principals are friendly and helpful. I only wish that there were more extracurricular activities and that the parents were allowed to be more involved. As a stay at home mom I want to be as involved as much as possible, but there just isn't much at the school to do. The school is great academically, it just doesn't do enough to reward the children for their hard work. I personally would love to have carnivals, or be allowed to see field day, or to just be able to visit the school more often. If they would allow more parent involvement, I would have no complaints.

My daughter is in 2nd grade now and I have never had a problem with the school. The staff has always been very friendly and patient with her. The only thing I wish they would do is an after -school program.

Upon registering my son the atmosphere was not inviting. I'm just not pleased with the overall of the school. Atkinson needs improvement.

Cannot speak more highly about the staff and Principle at Atkinson. My son has been treated extremely well and the staff go out of their way to teach the kids. First class all the way. Principal cares about her job and the kids. She always looks for ways to improve the school and how things are done.
