NCS has horrible security measures. There is gang graffiti on the walls and there have been several auto burglaries recently. Where is my increase in tuition going? It is certainly not being used for the security of the children.
A great school where God is growing in the lives of parents, students and teachers!
As a career public school teacher, I looked far and wide for a quality educational environment for my own children. Northland Christian School has an excellent balance of quality academics and Christian values. I have been extremely pleased with the class sizes and quality of the educators working with my kids. My children have thrived in this environment!
Privacy laws govern the investigation and resolution of any incident reported on a school campus. Administrators at Northland Christian School by policy and practice act responsibly when responding to any report that might be a danger to students, faculty or staff. Every report is carefully considered for an appropriate resolution. Character counts at Northland!
Outstanding! My children have attended this school for 11 years, and we love it! While every school has its rough spots/moments, Northland shows excellence overall. The student/teacher ratio is low, Christian values are taught and modeled, students' individual gifts are celebrated, and academics is a focus. Lots of extra-curricular activities are also offered. The majority of families are dual-income and the atmosphere is not "snobby" as I've seen in other places. It is truly like sending your child to school with their extended family. Tuition is mid-range among other creditable options in the Houston area.
Have not been pleased with the school. Our daughter attended there for 2 years, pre-school 2 both years. Even though she is advanced they held her back and made her repeat the 2yr. old class. This caused numerous behavior problems of which we were never told about until March! We were never contacted when she was removed from the classroom, etc. Then they tried to blame it on us as parents, hinting that we had somehow abused our daughter to cause her to act up in class. They told us the night of Welcome back to school/open house that our daughter was not going to be allowed back to school which left us 12 hours to find a new school before the year started. Complete lack of communication on all fronts! Teachers are nice, but not firm enough with the kids at a young age; they basically let the kids run the room. And they don't like you if you have both parents working. The finacial office numerous times humiliated us because both of us worked and we had to sign our daughter up for extended care. Great curriculm, but that's it.
We have been with Northland from K-5th and our child has received an excellent education in a calm, warm, loving environment. We are looking forward to moving to the secondary campus for middle school next year. Our daughter has received many opportunities to participate in music, stage, and class room presentations which allow the children to develop a comfort in their presentation skills in front of people. In addition in areas where she excels they have provided her the opportunity to improve at her own pace. We have had a positive experience and enjoyed the relationships we developed with the quality children, parents and staff at Northland..
If you are expecting a top quality education or one approaching near the top level of private schools in the Houston area you will not get it at Northland and will probably end up either extremely frustrated or in a situation that will require ultimately moving your child to a different educational environment. If you are attempting to escape the ethnic issues that dominate the area surrounding Northland, then Northland is an acceptable alternative assuming you do not mind the cost. The leadership of the school is basically non-existent or bland. The teachers are non-exceptional. Both of twhich would not be an issue if you were not paying for or expecting something of an exceptional nature. Northland is pretty much what you see on the surface - a lily white oasis in the middle of a minority dominated area.
We have already moved one child back to public school at the end of last year and are anticipating doing the same with another at the end of the school year. The reasons for this are simple: the school lacks the cohesive disciplined leadership or focus required to move to a level commensurate with the cost being charged for tuition.
Northland Christian School illustrates what few christian, college preparatory schools do, a balance of both the spiritual and academic areas of growth. While far from the Utopian ideal of a school, the focus on keeping the academics rigorous, the teachers advanced, and the options for students far ranging and diverse allows for an overall experience that can not be duplicated by either a public or other private school. From experience with several different levels and kinds of school, I must admit that I wouldn't want to spend my years of formal education anywhere else than at NCS and with the family that only resides within its confines.
