Way better than other schools and better than alief isd. My sister attended to this school and loved it!
I have had three children attend WBMS.They were in Pre-Ap classes. They were very well taught and prepared for Pre-Ap and AP in High school. My oldest is a senior in college and has maintained being on the deans list from her first semester on.It all starts with being well prepared at the end of each school year for the next and WBMS does this very well.We had one very mild experience with a bully ,contacted the school and it was resolved quickly..
Oh, I wish this review could be longer. I started at WBMS in the second semester of 7th grade. I came from a extremely conservative, wealthy, Christian, private school with about 100 people per grade. I transferred so I could experience public school, like every child I believe should at one point or another. It was a huge culture shock to say the least. My fellow classmate described the school to me on my first day by saying, "I guess it's like a private school, but with fighting and weed." Blunt, but true. It's very easy to stay out of the way of that stuff though. I gained from the school a diverse group of friends that I will always remember. Coming from private school, i knew i wouldn't be challenged much. It was the easiest thing ever. From when I came to when I graduated, my lowest grade was a 96. I gave about 25%. I didn't feel I was learning at all so I am returning to private school for HS. I learned most in my choir class. I loved my teacher so much. (She left at the end of last year) I also enjoyed my US History teacher, who, while extremely opinionated, was discipline, firm, and fun. You have to have self-control to attend this school or you will be dragged down.
I am very unhappy with West Briar, I am a strong supporter for the school, but when trying to get help for my child because of hearing problems I kept going in circles. It took me almost 7 months to get the needed testing and support needed. As a strong advocate for my child I have to wonder if it took me 7 months to get the help needed what happens to all those childern without parental help! Also, I worry about the safety at the school with teachers being able to discuss controversial news stories, that have no facts supporting it.
Our daughter loves attending the school. She is challenged in the class room and in her extracaricular activities. Yhe school is well funded and has involved parents from all different parts of the world with many promising students. We have been pleasantly surprised
Last year was very good ,but this year has been the worst school ,you should not even think what is going on at school and even outside of school,
u will not regret bringing your child to this school it is disciplined organized and functional
i am currently a 7th grader at wbms and this school is amazing. it is diverse and a good school. i went to barbara bush elementary school and as a 5th grader i heard rumors how the school was 'ghetto' but it is not. some people are but the can be nicer than the richest person at school.
My daughter has had a great experience at West Briar! The key is to get involved with school and the great programs the school has to offer
This school is very unorganized. The discipline is not consistant and they do not follow through with enforcing school rules. They allow students who are 'good' to continue to violate dress code while enforcing dress code with the 'problem' kids. THey only have ISS for five periods which is also ineffective! They enforce rules maybe once or twice a week which causes confusion for a child. They do have great extracurricular activities and hard working teachers. Some teachers allow kids to listen to IPODS in the classroom even though the principal does not allow it.
This is possibly the worst school my child has ever attended. Have been in contact with different teachers about how things are organised and taken care of and our questions are not always answered. This might be due to their work overload. We chose this school due the good ratings it received.
this is my sons first year at this school and i do see improvements. Teachers always return my calls with a attitude. seem like a great school just dont understand why they are not recognized. I guess time will tell.
This is quite possibly one of the worst schools my child has ever attended. As a child with a learning disability, you expect teacher's to be more understanding. His regular ed teachers have been awesome - I cannot, however, say the same for those allegedly helping him with his other classes. I chose this school, because I hoped they would help him excel. He kept a good standard previously with grades, behavior, and homework. That he has struggled and dropped below it highly reflects on how little this school cares about it's average student.
I have been a student here sixth graed so I know this school like the back of my hnad. The teachers are superb and actually WANT you to succeed. West Briar makes it fun to learn and contributes greatly to sports. I know this because I am a cheerleader there! My point is that scools can't get any better than WBMS!
My two older children attended this school from 6-8 grade and loved it. The staff is excellent and gives 100% to help students needing additional instruction - either before or after school. The extracurricular activities are exceptional including athletics, fine arts, and clubs. My youngest child is now starting as a 6th grader and can't wait.
This is the worst school we've ever been too. Completely unorganized and overly demanding re: school supplies, threatening students with disciplinary action if they don't bring in paper towels, baby wipes and band aids is ridiculous! Total disappointment with this school!
This is our first year in public school and the help from the staff in the making the transition from private has been outstanding. The teachers we have had this year have been accessible to answer any of my concerns and have gone out of their way to inform me when my child has showed signs of regretion. I personally could not have made it through this year without the help of all my child teachers, nor do I think my child would have been as comfortable withouth the support of the teachers guiding her in making better choices while being exposed to a world she had not experienced while in private school. Thank you all so very much, we are looking forward to next year.
Nice school, good students, great parent involvement. They are serious about student learning. Great extra-curriculars.
Wonderful school. Very clean, pleasant atmosphere. Diverse student body. Kids are not 'rowdy'. Alot of extracurriculum activities to choose from. Winning school district. Taks scores were amazing for 2004-2005 school year. Will go out of my way to keep my son at this school.New principal 2005-2006 school year.Hope all stays the same
