HOW CAN THIS DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AND SPECIAL ED ADMINISTRATOR SLLEP AT NIGHT?? WHAT IS THEIR INCENTIVE TO DENY A CHRONICALLY ILL BOY THE HELP HE SO DESPERATELY REQUIRES? PLEASE REPLY IF YOU CAN HELP OR ADVISE.
Well, I don't have an asnwer but a question..I may be new to the CCISD soon and was told it is wonderful for special needs kids..but your issue is of concern to me b/c it sounds like maybe they are not so great with special needs kids...what has your overall experience been with your son in this school district? I'm trying to find a good place for my 13 yr old daughter with ADHD/ Autism spectrum tendencies/emotional disturbance. Right now she is in HISD. Thank you.26566
Unfortunately we live in Texas. Texas is 48th in the nation for medical care for the mentally ill... So it's no surprise that our schools and equally delinquent and try to brush our children under the rug... Passing them through with a sub-standard education... My advice... Hire an attorney. Contact your local NAMI branch to see if they can provide guidance.
I know where you're at... It may feel like it, but you aren't alone. Keep your chin up! :-) 66430
the public school system is flawed when it comes to Special Education. CCISD is negligent and will never admit they cannot accommodate nor will they apologize for anything. I would rally every parent in Special Education and demand changes.77322
YES. My son has been in the CCISD special ed program for 9 years and they basically have set up a warehousing system to get these kids out of the way as cost effectively as possible. Please immediately seek a professional ARD advocate to assist you with your needs. I have filed a lawsuit and am working through the process now to ensure that my son gets everything he needs. Going the legal route is the only way you will get what your child needs in my opinion. Get a journal and start documenting everything, every day. In most cases, the violation of FAPE (free appropriate public education under the idea act) is a violation of your childs civil rights and as such the school can be held liable for all legal and professional expenses in court, so you can recover any out of pocket fees. If you are short on money at a minimum go to National ARD Advocates at www.narda.org. Please don't make the mistake of waiting as long as I did. From my family to yours, we wish you the best.78696
Unfortunately, I have no advice to offer. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you and I wish you all the best in getting your son's needs met. That being said, I have to come alongside and put in a good word for several administrators, teachers, and paras that work in CCISD that are absolutely amazing at meeting the needs of the students they serve in special ed. I can by no means speak for every school or every teacher, and I'm sure there are exceptions, but I promise you that many people working in CCISD do have their special ed. student's best interests at heart. It's beyond unfortunate that the people you are dealing with don't. Also, I feel compelled to mention that although my daughter does not have special needs, I have numerous friends whose children do and they are as quick to praise the special needs teachers/paras as I am. I wish every classroom at every school could do as amazing a job as they do in the classrooms/schools that I have volunteered and subbed in. Good luck with your situation. Something I've heard my friends with kids with special needs say often is "never stop advocating for your child" and "no one knows what they need as well as you."78826
